why the number of carbon exceeds the number of compounds of all other elements combined?

the compounds of carbon are we known as organic compounds (except, the oxides of carbon,

carbohydrates, hydrogen carbonates and carbides). the study of carbon compounds is called

chemistry. organic compounds are studied as a separate branch of chemistry due to the following

season :

1. They are uite different from inorganic compounds

!. The number of carbon compounds (more than fi"e million) exceeds the number of compounds

formed by all other elements taken together (one#tenth of a million).

carbon occurs in the group 1$ of the periodic tabel and it is neither strongly electropositi"e nor

strongly electronegati"e. %ue to this, carbon forms co"alent bonds with other elements by

sharing of electrons and not by complete loss or gain of electrons. its exhibits the uniue

property of sharing electrons with atom of its own kind to form long chains and rings. the

property to form compounds with long chains and rings of identical atoms is called catenation.

due catenation, carbon is capable of forming a large number of compounds (about & million).

senyawa karbon yang kita dikenal sebagai senyawa organik (kecuali, oksida karbon, karbohidrat,

karbonat hidrogen dan karbida). studi senyawa karbon disebut kimia. senyawa organik yang

dipelaari sebagai cabang terpisah dari ilmu kimia karena musim berikut:
