Bias dan Konfunding
Menilai Hubungan Statistik yang Valid Kita harus menilai:
Bias: apakah terjadi sistematik eror dalam studi
Epidemiology (Schneider)
Bias
 Kesalahan sistematik
Akibat: distorsi penaksiran parameter populasi sasaran berdasarkan parameter sampel
Epidemiology (Schneider)
sasaran berdasarkan parameter sampel
Chance vs Bias
Chance disebabkan “random error” (kesalahan random)
 Chance mengarah pada ketidaktepatan hasil
Epidemiology (Schneider)
 Chance mengarah pada ketidaktepatan hasil
Bias disebabkan oleh “systematic error” (kesalahan sistematis)
 Bias mengarah pada ketidakakuratan hasil

Jenis Bias
Seleksi Kesalahan sistematik dalam memilih subyek
Epidemiology (Schneider)
 Informasi
Bias Seleksi
Bias Seleksi Bias Berksonian
Berkson J. Limitations of the application of fourfo ld table analysis to hospital data. Biometrics 1946;2:47-53
Bias Seleksi Bias Respon
Epidemiology (Schneider)

 Bias Non-responden
Sukarela mungkin berbeda dengan mereka yang tidak

Bias Informasi Interviewer
 Recall
 Observer
Epidemiology (Schneider)
 Observer
 Loss to follow up
 Hawthorne Efek
 Surveillance Bias
 Missclassification Bias
 Bias interviewer – pengetahuan
Epidemiology (Schneider)
Bias Recall – mengingat kejadian 3 bulan
yang lalu ????
Bias Observer – observer sudah punya
ekspektasi tersendiri dengan hasil pemeriksaannya
Epidemiology (Schneider)
Loss to follow -up – mereka yang LFU
Bias Misclassification – error terjadi ketika salah mengklasifikasikan penyakit ataupun paparan
Epidemiology (Schneider)
ataupun paparan

Bias muncul pada desain dan pelaksanaan study.
Epidemiology (Schneider)

Epidemiology (Schneider)
Controls for Bias Be purposeful in the study design to minimize the
chance for bias Example: use more than one control group
Define, a priori, who is a case or what constitutes exposure so that there is no overlap Define categories within groups clearly (age groups, Define categories within groups clearly (age groups,
aggregates of person years)
Set up strict guidelines for data collection Train observers or interviewers to obtain data in the same
fashion
It is preferable to use more than one observer or interviewer, but not so many that they cannot be trained in an identical manner
Randomly allocate observers/interviewer data collection assignments
Institute a masking process if appropriate Single masked study – subjects are unaware of
whether they are in the experimental or control group
Controls for Bias (cont)
whether they are in the experimental or control group
Double masked study – the subject and the observer are unaware of the subject’s group allocation
Triple masked study – the subject, observer and data analyst are unaware of the subject’s group allocation
Build in methods to minimize loss to follow -up
