The validity o the clinical and la'oratory assess#ents peror#ed in this study was

particular para#eters% younger age o children inected with EPEC and viruses than
those inected with Ca#pylo'acter or Sal#onella spp.; rotavirus and Sal#onella

develops in a su'stantial proportion o children with acute inectious gastroenteritis and

Awide range o inectious agents has 'een i#plicated in the cause o persistent diarrhea,
including viruses, in particular rotavirus; protoBoa, such as =iardia and

la'oratory investigation o children with persistent diarrhea ails to yield an identiia'le

several reports, however, ro# countries as diverse as @ran, orway, Peru, Poland,

otwithstanding these previous reports, however, the current study is the irst to

the eatures o atypical EPEC inection with those o other etiologic agents o diarrhea.
The reasons why persistent diarrhea develops #ore re5uently in children inected withatypical EPEC than in those inected with adenovirus, rotavirus, Ca#pylo'acter or
