    A Bac*ground

    Globalization brings a lot of consequences, as the world is getting moreand more open and peoples needs increase, peoples interacting with other people

    from different countries is inevitable. Moreover, the developments of economy as

    well as that of science and technology force people to cooperate and get alongwith one another.Meanwhile, in interacting with others, people have to communicate; and

    in doing so, they need a medium. It is generally admitted that language is a meansof communication. It is through language that we are able to interact with others inour world !erewian"a, #$$%&. 'hrough language, people can e(press their ideas,wishes, thought, and desires. Most activities involving more than one person

    require a language. )anguage, therefore, plays a significant role in our life.*eople coming from different countries with different conditions, cultures

    and bac"grounds meet and spea" different languages. +hen they have to

    communicate and cooperate, they are confronted with a problem; they do notunderstand each other. 'hey, therefore, have to master a certain language withwhich they can understand each other. In this case, they have to master an

    international language. nglish is one of the international languages that is widelyused in the world.

    -ealizing the growing demand of nglish as an international means ofcommunication, it is reasonable that our government places nglish as a crucial

    subect in our education system. *roects have been conducted in order to improvenglish teaching and learning in Indonesia; one of which is by revising the
