Reading ComprehensionOn the night of April 14, 1912, a disaster

happened. The disaster shocked the world. The British passenger ship, Titanic, sank in the North Atlantic sea on its voyage from Southampton to New York.

The Titanic left Southampton five days before the disaster happened. The ship was two hundred and sixty – nine meters long. It was the largest and most luxurious steamship ever built. On board were some of the richest, most powerful men and women in the world. The ship had only sixteen life boats. There were enough for less than half of the 2.224 pessanger and crew on board. However, no one was worried. The Titanic had the very, latest design and the most modern technology. Everyone thought that it was impossible for the ship to sink.

At 2.20 on April 15 the imposible thing happened. The Titanic sank after hitting on iceberg at full speed. Only seven hundred and eleven people survived.
