    cancer and infectious diseases a nd is char acterized by the following featur es.

    [Cancer Treatm ent]

    The hospital specializes in t he tr eatm ent of cancer for t he populat ion of metr opolitan Tokyo and, inaddition to a wide ra nge of depar tmen ts specializing in the t reat ment of cancer, we have a fully-

    equipped centra l trea tm ent facility providing procedures su ch as end oscopy, X-ray dia gnosis and

    pathology to provide a high level of medical care for the city populace.

    In Febr uar y 2008, the h ospital took on a leading role in th e treat ment of cancer after being designat ed

    as a cancer treat ment ba se within the adm inistrative divisions of Japan.

    In t and em with t he growing aging society, the nu mber of patient s suffering not only from cancer, but

    from diverse complications is on t he increase. Organic links between th e various depar tmen ts with in

    the hospital ma ke it possible to select an d implement t he ideal treat ment for each patient. The hospital

    is capable of providing integra ted t reat ment even in cases of difficult illnesses.

    The Hospital was inaugurated as a metropolitan general hospital for the treatment of emergency

    pat ients su ffering serious illness or injury an d, with t he exception of certa in legally-designated

    infectious diseases, provides specialized treat ment for all illnesses. In part icular , the hospital pu ts

    emphasis on the treatm ent of heart and cerebrovascular diseases.

    Additiona lly, an emer gency room is provided for use du ring th e night a nd on holidays with a t otal of

    17 physicians on ha nd to provide emergency treat ment . As well as emer gency cases, a depar tmen tspecializing in t he tr eatm ent of children of school age on an out -patient ba sis is open on Sat urda ys

    and Su nda ys to make it easy for pat ients to come to the h ospital.

    Based on the concepts of "safety, service, manners, scientific foundation and technological

    improvements," the nursing department works daily together with physicians and other

    depar tmen ts to provide nur sing centered on "team tr eatm ent" with the goal of creating a hospital

    worthy of the tr ust of its pa tients. Moreover, th e Respiratory Contr ol Team (RCT), the Infection

    Control Team (ICT) an d th e Nut rition Control Team (NCT) ma ke use of the expertise of nur ses

    qualified in emergency and intensive care a s well as infection cont rol in th e execution of their

    respective functions.

    The hospital ha s a su pport system th e aim of which is to heighten specialized knowledge and

    technology through clinical tr aining for new n urses pr ovided within th e hospital. Support includes

    guidance provided by a job coach over a period of thr ee months a nd a thr ee-year ba sic course to

    enable tr ainees to gain independ ence as prima ry nur ses. Following this, ongoing education such as

    carrier-enhancement and nursing tra ining as well as Physical Assessment Seminars and

    extracurricular tra ining is available. Furthermore, the hospital serves th e role as a treatm ent center

    covering a wide disaster a rea and pr ovides "Specialized Disaster Tra ining" tha t provides training

    from the basics to foster instru ctors in disaster n ursin g.
