Pada kedua Ujung (A besar dan A kecil), Eb/A berkurang. Nilai Eb/A yang relative konstan itu menunjukkan saturasi (kejenuhan) energy ikat per nucleon dalam inti, bahwa setelah sejumlah nucleon terkumpul energy ikat itu mencapai batasnya.Secara kasar dikatakan bahwa tidak tergantung pada jumlah nucleon, tiap nucleon merasakan ikatan yang sama kuat, penambahan atau pengurangan nucleon tidak menambah atau mengurangi kuat ikatan yang dirasakan satu nucleon dalam inti. Secara kasar dengan begitu, energy ikat inti Eb sebanding dengan jumlah nucleon A. sifat inti seperti ini serupa dengan sifat setetes cairan atau sekeping metal, energy ikat pada setetes cairan atau sekeping metal sebanding dengan jumlah molekul penyusun cairan atau metal itu, energy ikat permolekul sama.
