How to Do a Search by Keyword

    1. After identifying the vehicle by model and year, enter your keyword or words. The keyword search looks for words that match:

Words in the title of a document or article System or component name Symptom name (see below for a list of standard symptom categories)

DTC CodesNote: Keywords are not case sensitive and must be spelled correctly to work. However, if youre not sure how tospell a word, try using a part of the word (for example, immobi for immobilizer).

    2. Choose from the three different types of keyword search options:

Any Word: Gives you a list of documents that contain at least oneof the search terms you type, in anyorder.

All Words (the default setting):Gives you a list of documents that contain allthe search terms you type, inany order.

Exact Phrase: Gives you a list of documents that contain the exact phraseyou type, in the exact order.

    3. Finally, click on the SEARCH button. Keyword search options can be used for different situations, and will return different result sets.

Any Word: This is the default choice and is generally the best option when doing a keyword search. AnyWord will return the largest list of documents, so you may need to scroll through to find the desired docu-ment.

All Words: This is a good option if you want a more focused and narrowed list of documents. However, using All Words may prevent you from finding similar documents with slightly different keywords.

Exact Phrase: Use this when you know an exact phrase in the title of the publication or the procedure youare looking for; keywords must be in the exact order. This option is generally used when you already knowthe name of the document.

How to Do a Search by Keyword (Continued)

    Basic Tips for Using Keywords

Keywords must be spelled correctly to work. If youre not sure how to spell a word, you can use a part of the word, for example, immobi for immobilizer.

Use the shortest formof the word. For example, try evap instead of evaporative. Use the singular form of the word. For example, try belt not belts.

    Standard Symptom Categories

In many cases, the symptom your customer is discribing will fit into a standard ServiceExpresssymptom category. If so, use that exact category name for the keyword. These are standard ServiceExpresssymptom categories:

Driveability Performance Fluid Leaks NVH (Noise, Vibarition, Harshness) Smell Water Leak Wind Noise

    Keywords that Work Well

These are examples of some common keywords:

System names Component names Specific DTCs ABS bumper P1457 immobilizer (or immobi) hood P0740 SRS filter 15-3 evaporative (or evap) trunk 12-4
