SOOT BLOWER LOGIC – WRITEUP

Introduction

Twenty three (23) soot blowers are being provided for the recovery boiler. These soot blowers are provided with

a single motor for both rotary and traverse motions. These soot blowers can be controlled from the following

locations: Soot Blower (Operation from !S)

"ocal #$shb$tton Stations ("#BS)

Control from DCS

#rovision shall be made for %ndivid$al &an$al Operation as well as '$tomatic Se$ence !ontrol ('S!) with

 provision for bypassing any blower. ("ocal*emote selection shall be in !S). "ocation of Blowers+ indications

controls and interloc,s will be shown in the &%&%!S for soot blower operation in !S.

Control from Local Pushbutton Stations (LPBS)

Before starting $p the blowing operation the Steam %solation alve (42515467&) sho$ld be closed.

 

!lose the steam %solation alve (42515467&) and then open acc$m Brea,er alve (42515

482). 'fter 9 min$te time interval+ open the rain !ontrol alve (42515469&) for Sootblowers 5

9 to 92 (Boiler Ban, conomiser 'reas) (4251548&) for Sootblowers 5 93 to 23 (s$perheater 

'reas) and close the acc$m Brea,er alve (42515482).

Then if steam press$re (425#S"5484) is not low+ start the seal air fan and operate the soot blowers

individ$ally.

'fter the completion of blowing operation+ open the rain !ontrol alve (42515469&) (425

1548&) the ac$$m Brea,er alve (42515482) for draining. 

Se*uence Operation:

Se$ence of Operation incl$des

Predefined Se*uence:

 

%n predefined se$ence opening of condensate drain control valve+ closing of condensate drain control

valve after ens$ring ade$ate condensate drain temperat$re and insertion and retrieval of all the soot

 blowers that are selected for se$ence operation shall be carried o$t in a se$ential manner. %n

 predefined se$ence all the soot blowers will operate one by one.

Soot blowers can be retracted to home position a$tomatically once getting an signal from the

corresponding nd position limit switch or the forced retract timer contact (from &!!).

+ser defined Se*uence:

 %n $ser defined se$ence operation opening of condensate drain control valve+ closing of condensate

drain control valve and after ens$ring ade$ate condensate drain temperat$re and insertion and

retrieval of soot blowers that are selected for se$ence operation shall be carried o$t in a se$ential

manner. By selecting the soot blowers in the $ser defined se$ence (from !S)+ the operator can

decide which blowers to be incl$ded in se$ence and which are to be bypassed .Operator can also

select the sootblowers based on the areas as

Sootblowers 9 to 92 in Boiler Ban, conomiser 'rea.

Sootblowers 93 to 23 in S$perheater 'rea.

Soot blowers can be retracted to home position a$tomatically once getting an signal from the

corresponding nd position "imit switch or Timer contact (from &!!).

The opening and closing operation of steam isolation valve+ opening and closing of condensate drain

control valve+ forward and retract operations of all the blowers shall be monitored and appropriate

indicationalarms shall be generated to notify the operator the s$ccess or fail$re of each operation.

%f there is a fa$lt d$ring retract operation of any of the blowers+ provision shall be made to

a$tomatically force retract the blower to home position.

 

The se$ence operation shall be stopped after the affected blower is bro$ght to home position. The

operator can then proceed the se$ence f$rther by pressing reset #B (from !S).

 

0ail$re of a$to retract operation shall also be ann$nciated so that the operator can ta,e appropriate

action to man$ally bring the blower to home position.
