    THROUGH SEEDS

    Mature seeds should be

soaked in water for one day

and planted 1 cm deep and 2

    cm apart.

    (3) The seeds, watered

    lightly daily, should

    germinate within 7-9 days.

    Upon reaching 30 cm in

    height, the seedlings can be

thinned. Seedlings are readyto be planted as soon as they

grow between 60 cm and 90

    cm tall.

    THROUGH CUTTINGS

    Cuttings from healthy

    branches with hard wood

    may be taken. These should

be 45 cm to 1.5 m long and

    10 cm thick.

The cuttings are left to dry

    for 1-3 days in standing

    position under a shady

    place.

    1. Leaf production stage can be reached

    2. Within three years of planting, one

tree will be able to produce 300-400

    pods per year.

    3. A mature tree will be able to produce

up to 1,000 pods annually.4. Frequent pruning of the trees top

will increase leaf growth and control

its height to make harvesting easier.

Malunggay is profitable and can provide higher

incomes to farmers. If the seeds are sold at P20per kilo, it could have an income potential, forseeds alone, estimated to be between P218,000

and P521,000 per hectare per year.
