    Asking the date:

To ask Whats the date today?say Jn tin shj ho? Or say Jn tin sh j yu j ho? Or

more formally say Jn tin sh j yu j r?

To answer, replace the question wordj with the number of the day and month. Asjn tin isthe subject of the sentence, it is placed at the beginning. The Chinese like to use the concept

of big to small. Dates begin with the year, followed by the month and finally the day. In

spoken Chinese, the verb sh is often omitted, but can be used for emphasis. To ask about yesterdays or tomorrows date, replacejn tin with zu tinormng tin. InChinese, as tense is shown by the time stated, i.e. yesterday or tomorrow, the verb does not

change for future or past tense.

    Example:

jn tin sh j yu j r (What date is today?)

mng tin sh j yu j r (what date is tomorrow?)

zu tin sh j yu j r ? (What date was yesterday?)

Asking the day of the week:

To ask What day is it today?say Jn tin sh xng q j? To answer, replace the question word

j with the number of the day. The Chinese use the numbers one to six for Monday to Saturday

and tin orr for Sunday. The verb sh, which is used in written Chinese, is often omitted inspoken Chinese, but can be used for emphasis. To ask about yesterday or tomorrow, use the

same sentence structure, but replacejn tin with zu tin for yesterday ormng tin fortomorrow.
