Title:

The title of the journal that I found is Language Socialization, Participant and Identity: Ethnographic Approaches. The journal was written by Patricia Duff.

Research Questions:

The research questions of this journal are a) how students are inducted into new subject matter at schools and other learning sites and how language and literacy practices mediate their learning and are themselves a goal and outcome of learning, b) how students learn to engage in the sanctioned oral and written discourse practices of different disciplines and social groups, c) how they negotiate the routine questions, responses, and feedback behaviors of their teachers and peers, as well as other forms of accepted (or sometimes subversive) interaction, d) How, in the process, they become more sociolinguistically competent participants in, or members of, these local cultures or learning communities, and e) How they might best be bridged to enhance students academic achievement.

Research Subject:

For the research subject, the general focus was predictable between caregivers and children or between peers or siblings within and across cultures (it concerns on families, caregivers and children).

Research Instrument:

Research instrument of this journal is using non-test that is observation (includes interviewing and analyzing) and recording.

Technique of Data Analysis:

The teachnique of data analysis of this journal is used in these early studies, guided largely by linguistic anthropology and thus ethnography, typically involved extensive longitudinal eldwork, including participant observation, the recording and analysis of speech by focal participants (families, caregivers, children) over time, the selection of key activities or routines for analysis (e.g., teasing, bedtime story-telling), interviews with family members, and then an analysis of target linguistic forms, such as morphemes, sentence-nal particles, words, phrases, adjacency pairs, pitch and intonation contours, or politeness markers (see Duff, 2002). The size of the entire corpus of similar episodes was often described and then features of these episodes or routines were explained and exemplied from transcribed data excerpts, with core features outlined. Variations as well as regularities in practice or form were noted. Changes over time were described, especially in young childrens development, and often captured quantitatively as well.

Conclusion:

Based on the journal explanation, it can be concluded that, it is assumed, is communicatively competent members who have appropriated the cultures core values, beliefs, and dispositions (e.g., Social control, self-assertion, egalitarianism or hierarchical status, reciprocity, empathy, verbal play, expression of anger) plus other kinds of knowledge (e.g., oratory, narrative structure).

Suggestion:

For the suggestions, it is follow-up research with communities and participants studied years before would shed more light on the evolution and ecology of language practices over time and space, and across generations, social groups, and sociopolitical contexts. Such research would also reveal the degree to which earlier LS practices have been effective for participants integration into and achievement in desired communities of practice and how, and why, the norms in those new communities have also changed. Additional research could, moreover, extend LS theory/research to other communities, such as populations with mental health disorders, socially marginalized cultural groups into which newcomers seek refuge or membership, older learners in the new age of lifelong education, and highly skilled professionals negotiating complex speech events and tasks through an array of international and virtual networks in postindustrial society. Alternatively, research might explore, to a greater extent, LS in informal education settings. Based on my perspective, the writer should give more detail about the topic and sub topic in the journal. Because of that, it makes the reader confused with the content, topic and sub topic.
