Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Thank you for the warm welcome this past Sunday. When Fr. Tom Ponzini was appointed as Pastor of Prince of Peace, I was the first to apply for Sacred Heart of Jesus in Manvel. I’m grateful to Daniel Cardinal DiNardo for accepting my request and appointed me to be your pastor. I look forward to get to know you and together serve this growing community.
On my third day here at Sacred Heart of Jesus, we discovered a woman who had parked on our back parking lot near the parish hall and later died in her car. We prayed for her and her family at 9:00 A.M. Mass. The staff and I had a prayer service for the repose of her soul at the spot after the police vacated the campus. Please keep this woman and her family in your prayers during this difficult time. Life can be so fragile during the Pandemic with deaths, unemployment, evictions, and homelessness. In this darkness, we are called to be the light of Christ for others. Our kind words, smiles, and joy might give hope to those living in despair. Let us continue to pray for an end to the Pandemic.
For those who have not come back to Sacred Heart of Jesus since COVID-19, I hope to see you and your family soon in Church. Until then, let us pray for one another.

Queridos hermanos y hermanas en Cristo:
Gracias por la calurosa bienvenida este pasado domingo. Cuando el Padre Tom Ponzini fue nombrado Párroco de la parroquia Príncipe de Paz, yo fui el primero en aplicar al Sa-cred Heart of Jesus en Manvel. Agradezco al Cardenal Daniel DiNardo por aceptar mi solicitud y nombrarme su párroco. Espero conocerlos y servir juntos a esta comunidad en crecimiento.
En mi tercer día aquí en el Sacred Heart of Jesus, descubrimos a una mujer que se había estacionado en nuestro estacionamiento trasero cerca del salón parroquial y luego murió en su automóvil. Oramos por ella y su familia en la Misa de las 9:00 a.m. El personal y yo tuvimos un servicio de oración por el descanso de su alma en este lugar después de que se retiró la policía. Por favor, mantenga a esta mujer y su familia en sus oraciones durante este momento difícil. La vida puede ser tan frágil durante la pandemia con muertes, desempleo, desalojos y falta de vivienda. En esta oscuridad, estamos llamados a ser la luz de Cristo para los demás. Nuestras palabras agradables, sonrisas y gozo pueden dar esperanza a quienes viven en la desesperación. That everything we do is for the glory of God. “Brothers and sisters, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do everything for the glory of God.” - 1 Corinthians 10:31 Do a quick check of your priorities. Where does God rank in that list? If He’s not first, you have some work to do. Putting God first in everything helps us from putting other “gods” (like our pride, ego, money and possessions) before God. Before making a decision, ask yourself, “I’m I going this for the glory of God or for the glory of me?”
Que todo lo que hagamos sea por la gloria de Dios. "Hermanos y hermanas, si comen o beben, o cualquier cosa que hagan, háganlo todo por la gloria de Dios" -1 Corintios 10:31 Revise rápidamente sus prioridades. ¿En qué lugar está Dios en esa lista? Si Él no está en el primer lugar, tiene que hacer algo. Poner a Dios primero en todo nos ayuda a no poner otros "dioses" antes que a Dios (como nuestro orgullo, ego, dinero y propiedades). Antes de tomar una decisión, pregúntese a sí mismo, ¿Estoy haciendo esto para la gloria de Dios o para mi gloria?

1. CDA Court #2073 Graduating High School Senior Scholarship
Our local court is offering up to four (4) scholar-ships of a minimum of $500 each to 2021 Catho-lic graduating high school seniors. Three will be available to applicants who have a relative who is a current member in good standing of our local court #2073. One will be available to ANY Catho-lic graduating high school senior from St. John or Sacred Heart parish. Deadline: April 9, 2021
2. Gerry Davison Catholic School Scholarship
Our local court is offering one (1) or more schol-arship(s) of a minimum of $250 to students who plan to attend Pre-K through senior year in a Catholic school. Applicant’s family must be reg-istered parishioners of St. John in Alvin or Sacred Heart in Manvel. Other requirements listed on application. Deadline: April 9, 2021
3. National Court Scholarships The national court is offering two $1000 scholar-ships to 8th grade students entering the 9th grade in a Catholic High School in the fall of 2021. Appli-cations are available in the church office or the CDA website. Deadline: April 1, 2021
