Bagaimana sel berfungsi?

Setiap sel mempunyai nukleus. Nukleus mengandungi bahan kimia yang dikenali sebagai

asid deoksiribonukleik (deoxyribonucleic acid, DNA). DNA adalah struktur yang menyimpan

semua maklumat tentang aktiviti-aktiviti dan ungsi-ungsi seluruh badan. Sesuatu sel perluuntuk mentasir maklumat ini bagi mengetahui ungsi sebenarnya.

Nukleus

Nukleus (nucleus) adalah bahan yang paling padat di dalam sel dan dilitupi oleh

membran nukleus. Nukleus !uga adalah pusat ka"alan bagi sel. Nukleus mengandungi arahankimia (chemical instructions) dalam bentuk DNA. DNA ini akan diba"a keluar dari nukleus

melalui membran nukleus

Sel hai"an (animal cell) adalah seperti beg kecil yang berisi air dan ianya adalah lembut. Sel ini

dilitupi oleh lapisan yang telus (transparent) yang dikenali sebagai membran

sel (cell membrane). #embran ini boleh men!adi lebam dan permukaannya adalah separatelap (permeable). $iang-liang halus yang terdapat pada permukaannya membenarkan hanya

bahan-bahan kimia yang tertentu saha!a mengalir melaluinya. Nukleus adalah pusat yangmenga"al semua aktiviti-aktiviti di dalam sel hai"an ini. Nukleus ini dipenuhi dengan bahan

seperti agar-agar (!elly-like) dipanggil sitoplasma (cytoplasm). Sitoplasma mengandungi

%organ kecil% yang dipanggil organel-organel (organelles) dan setiap organel mempunyai ungsi-ungsi tertentu.

Sel hai"an (Animal cell)

Sel Tumbuhan

Sel tumbuhan (plantcell) berbeza daripada sel haiwan dari segi 2 aspek. Selain

dipenuhi dengan sitoplasma dan membran sel, sel tumbuhan mempunyai dinding selselulosa (cellulosecell wall) dan mengandungi organel-organel yang dikenali sebagai

kloroplas (chloroplast). Dinding sel bertindak sebagai lapisan pelindung kepada sel

tumbuhan yang lembut. Kloroplas mengandungi klorofil (chlorophyll) yang

membolehkan tumbuhan untuk melakukankan fotosintesis. Sel-sel tumbuhan

mempunyai vakuol (vacuole) yang besar bagi menyimpan sap sel (cecair sel) untuk

mengekalkan kesegaran setiap sel.
