“A Strategic View of Manufacturing Process”

AE-2121 Material Pesawat dan Metoda Manufaktur I

•Objectives

• Should be able to describe:

• problems in manufacturing process

• Competitive Product Introduction Process

• Technique in Design for Manufacture and Assembly

• Process Selection Strategy

•Manufacturing is a Complex Process !

•Design and Production Consortium is a even more Complex but getting Common Now.

•Problems

• Higher quality products

• Lower costs

• Shorter product lifecycle

• 30% efforts wasted on reworks

• 25 of total sales revenue for cost of quality

• Lack of practical experience of production and understand the limitations and capabilities they must work within

•Problems Cont.

•Benefiting of reducing time-to-market

•Competitive Product Introduction Process

Objective:-

• Reduced Time to Market

• Reduced Product Cost

• Reduced Project Cost

•Product Introduction Management

Technique in Design for Manufacture and Assembly

• Involves simultaneous consideration of design goals and manufacturing constraints in order to identify and alleviate manufacturing problems while the product is being designed.

• Includes an understanding of the technical capabilities and limitations of the manufacturing processes chosen by invoking a series of guidelines, principle, and recommendations, commonly termed ‘producibility’ guidelines, to modify component designs for subsequent manufacture.

• The use of techniques to assist costing of component designs also aids the process of cost optimisation.

•Process Selection Strategy• The objective is to provide support for

manufacturing process selection in terms of technological feasibility, quality of conformance and manufacturing cost

• The satisfaction of this objective is through: • The provision of data on the characteristics and

capabilities of a range of important manufacturing, joining and assembly processes. The intention is to promote the generation of design ideas and facilitate the matching and tuning of a design to a process

• The provision of methods and data to enable the exploration of design solutions for component manufacturing and assembly costs in the early stages of the design and development process.
