    ABSTRACT

    DESIGN OfNORMAL BUTYRALDEHYDE FACTORY FROM

    PROPYLENE, HYDROGEN AND CARBON MONOXIDE

    CAPACITY 25,000 TONS / YEAR

    (Design Reactor (R-201))

    Normal Butyraldehyde are chemicals that are used as raw material for the

    manufacture of Polyvinyl Butyral, Butyciric Acid, Isobutyric Acid and 2,2,4-Trimethyl-1,3-Pentanediol and as a plasticiezer in plastics plant.

    Requirements Normal Butyraldehyde in Indonesia has increased each year

    and so far it still imported from abroad. In addition, the requirements normal

    Butiraldehid in the world have also increased with increasing industrial

    development users normal Butyraldehyde, especially the plastics industry. So

    normal Butyraldehyde plant development is needed to support the development of

    domestic industries.

    Normal Butyraldehyde manufactured by reacting propylene, hydrogen and

    carbon monoxide in the reactor at 100oC and pressure of 8 atm with 100%conversion and yield of 0.7. The output of the reactor is separated in the

    condenser subcooler. The yield on the condenser subcooler non-kondensable

    gaseous (propane and nitrogen) discharged into the air and under the condenser

    subcooler purified in the distillation tower to produce normal Butyraldehyde with

    purity of 99.42%.

    Factory production capacity is planned 25,000 tons / year with 330 working

    days within 1 year. The location of the factory was established in the area planned

    industrial park Cikampek, Karawang, West Java. Labor needed as many as 168

    people with a form of business entity Limited Liability Company (PT) led by a

    Director who is assisted by the Director of Production and Financial Director with

    line and staff organizational structure.

    Provision of utility plant needs a treatment system and water supply, steam

    supply systems, instrument air supply systems, and power generation systems.

    From the economic analysis is obtained:

    Fixed Capital Investment (FCI) = Rp.115.848.370.052

    Working Capital Investment (WCI) = Rp.20.443.830.009

    Total Capital Investment (TCI) = Rp.136.292.200.061

    Break Even Point (BEP) = 43,9446 %

    Shut Down Point (SDP) = 33,6979 %

    Pay Out Time before taxes (POT)b = 1,3645 years

    Pay Out Time after taxes (POT)a = 1,3645 years

    Return on Investment before taxes (ROI)b = 67,2411 %

    Return on Investment after taxes (ROI)a = 53,7928 %Discounted cash flow (DCF) = 45,4179 %

    By considering this summary, definitely Butyraldehyde industry foundation

    should be learned further, because it is a factory that is profitable and has good

    prospects.
