    1. The Eiffel Tower ___________ Paris, France.

    a. landmarks

    b. is landmarked in

    c. is a landmark in

    d. is in a landmark

The answer is c. Its because The eiffel tower in this context has function as a subject and subject is

usually followed by verb or to be like is, am, or are. Besides that, Paris in this context has function as

adverb of place .So, off course the answer, that can fill between subject and adverb of place in this

sentence, is verb or to be, and object. In other words, the answer is c, which has is as to be and

    landmark as object.

Why not the answer is a? Because if we use only landmarks to fill the blank, its not suitable with

paris, france which has function in this sentence as adverb of place.

Why not the answer is b? Its because answer b is passive voice, so after landmarked, it must

    followed by by

Why not the answer is d? Its because is usually followed by verb-ing or verb 3 if its passive, but

    not by preposition

So, the answer is c. Is a landmark in.

    2. Young deer _________.

    a. are called fawns

    b. be fawns

    c. is fawns

    d. are fawns called

The answer is a because from the context and the choice, we can see that the sentence is passive

and as passive sentence, young deer as subject is usually followed by to be and verb 3. So, off

course the suitable answer is a. Are called fawns.

Why not the answer is b? Its because fawns state that the noun is plural, so it also must

preceeded by plural to be like are.

Why not the answer is c? Its because if the to be is is, the noun must singular, without es or s.

why not the answer is d? Its because for the passive voice, after tobe usually fol lowed by verb, then

    noun, not vice versa.

    3. Not until a dog is several months old does it begin to exhibit signs of

    independence ___________.

    a. its mother from

    b. from mother

    c. to mother

    d. from its mother

The answer is d because from the choice we can see that most of them use from as preposition,

and after from usually followed by noun. If there is pronoun like its, we usually put the pronoun

before the noun. So, the answer is d. From its mother.

    4. To score a goal in soccer you ________.

    a. must kick the ball

    b. must kicks the ball

    c. may kick them ball

    d. must kick them balls

The answer is a. Must kick the ball, its because from the choice we can see that most of them use

must as modals, and after modals usually followed by verb 1, without s or es.

    5. The observation deck at the Sears Tower _________ in Chicago.

    a. is highest than any other one

    b. is highest than any other one

    c. is higher than any other one

    d. is higher that any other one

The answer is c because the sentence shows us about comparison, so to compare one thing to the

other (in this context, sears tower to chicago), we usually use to be, then verb plus r or er, then

than, and after that the object that we compare. So, we can conclude that the answer is c. Is

    higher than any other one.

    6. If it _________ so cloudy, we would plan on having the fair outside.

    a. was

    b. was not

    c. weren't

    d. had not

The answer is b because from the choice we can see that most of them is negative (use not) and the

subject is singular, so we must use singular to be too. Then, after statement if, we can see that

the sentence use would, so the to be must was. If we choose had not, usually after if, we use

would have, not would. So, in the end we can conclude that the answer is b. Was not.

    7. At the 1984 Democratic National Convention in San Francisco, Geraldine

Ferraro became the first woman _________ for the vice presidency.

    a. to being nominated

    b. to has been nominated

    c. to have been nominated

    d. to will be nominated

The answer is b because the context is past (not now) so we cant use verb-ing, and also because

that, we will not use will because will has use for future statement. So, we can eliminate answer a

and answer d. Then, the subject is singular (Geraldine Ferraro) so we must use has, not have. So,

after eliminated answer a, c, and d, we can conclude that the answer is b. To has been nominated.
