Gosford Times 25th June 1915

Mr. Vic Frewin, of Gosford, who enlisted and went to Liverpool camp, has been invalided home suffering from pneumonia, from which we are pleased to hear he has almost recovered.

Gosford Times 7th July 1916 “Vic.” Frewin.

Mrs. J J Frewin, of Gosford, has received the follow-ing letter from 8th Casualty Clearing Station, France, dated 16th May;- Dear Mrs. Frewin,- Your dear boy, Victor, is here in our hospital since 10th instant with a gunshot wound in right chest and arm. The bullet entered the chest and, passing on, broke his arm. He is a dear good fellow and I much appreciate being able as Chaplain to try and help him. He will be leaving us in a day or so for the Base Hospital. He allows me to send all the sweet messages I would like my own wife to get from our boys in days to come, and above all he is eager that you should not worry about him. May God give you grace, and all our brave wives, mothers, and sweethearts at his fearful time—Yours very truly, Revd. Anthony F Fenn.

Gosford Times 13th September 1917 SOLDIER’S LETTERS “The boys who blazed the track” .... P.S.—I am well and fit. Look forward eagerly to the Times for local news. Have seen quite a number of old friends lately. “Billy” Kilpatrick and Vic Frewin are both looking well, also Weiss from Erina, and Duffy of The Entrance. They were all camped near me some time ago. Everybody here is confident of victory in the near future. Kind regards to all friends. [A cable was received a few weeks ago stating that Gunner Guerin had been wounded.—Ed.) Letter by Gunner A. G. Guerin.

Gosford Times 8th August 1918 Late Lieut. Vic. Frewin

Mrs. J J Frewin has received the following letter from Lieut Colonel Murphy respecting the death of her gallant soldier son in France;- 24th April, 1918- Dear Mrs. Frewin,- I am writing to ex-press my deepest sympathy in the untimely death of your lad, lieut. V J Frewin. He was in command of an attack upon a position which both we and the French were anxious to capture. He did his work splendidly, and held on in the face of odds which have been esti-mated at 10-1. he was shot some three hours later. His own men hung on until they were all killed or wounded, and I am certain that your lads example inspired his men to such a gallant resistance. The losses inflicted upon the enemy were extremely heavy. I am deeply grieved at the loss. Your lad had just become second in command of his Company, and the additional responsi-bility seemed to have had a wonderful effect upon him. I never met him in NSW tough we both served in the same Department. His effects are being sent to you. In deepest sympathy, yours sincerely, GEO. MURPHY, Lieutenant Colonel.

Gosford Times 3rd October 1918 Widespread sympathy is expressed for Mr. and Mrs J J Frewin, who recently lost their gallant soldier son, Lieut. Vic Frewin, and last week were called upon to bear an-other bereavement in the death of a daughter, Mrs. Arm-strong, who passed away at Helensburgh.

Gosford Times 17th April 1919 ROLL OF HONOR FREWIN,- In loving memory of our dear son and brother, Victor, killed in action at Hangard Wood, April 15th, 1918. Aged 29 years. Inserted by his loving parents, brothers and sisters.
