High Pressure Jet Drilling
Project Motivation
To develop deep water fields, it will be necessary to drill
directional wells from fixed platforms. In Campos Basin, at
water depth of 2000 to 3000 meters, the sediment cover is
often thin, sometimes less than 500 m. It means we need to
drill medium and short radius directional wells. Conventional
drilling systems sometimes presents problems to drill such
wells. High pressure jet drilling system is one alternative
because requires low or none weight on bit and increases
rate of penetration.
Project Objectives
Make available an alternative system, based on high pressure
jet, that allows drilling and complet ion of medium and short
radius directional wells in deep water with a thin sediment
cover.
Project Status
Three systems were identified : Petrophysics, Flowdril
and Kongsberg.
In January 1998, an workshop happened in Macaand R io
with the participation of Mr. Wade Dickinson, president of
Petrophysics, and several engineers of Petrobras. It was
decided to plan a test of Petrophysics system in an well
onshore, for instance in Amazonas, until the end of 1998. We
are nego tiating costs w ith Petrophysics.
A multiclient project was proposed to be done by Rogaland
Research, in Norway. The Flowdril and Kongsberg systems
