During 2015 Fall semester, I collect-ed materials from street and reas-semble them into new furnitures. This one is Clothing Shelf with industrial style.

This furniture design is to understand the relationship between human position and design. Materials from Homedepot. The goal is to design muti-purpose furniture. ( In progress)

Start using abanded paper tubes from printing lab to design this piece furniture. This furniture would be de-signed for working table purpose. ( In progress)

Grand St. Library (China Town, New York)

This library locats at a relatively busy corner between Grand St. and Chrystie St. by China Town. This site was originally used as complex of seafood market and residence. Across the site is a huge park area where

most social events hold. My strategy to design this library is to integrate this library into the local urban fabric, so that the library could escape from the public spotlight. and merely attract people coming inside whoever really intents to, and remain the library with its character of silence. However, once they come inside, they would experience the dramatic different experience of space that is opposite to the building’s rigid facade. The lines are intertwined and which sculpts out a sense of nature. People might never know what is going to happen after the next turn, so they are expected

to keep their traveling. The purpose of the interior design is to break down the limitation of traditional library setting. In this library, there’s no formal table or sitting area, but groups of random “tatami” which allows people to sit anywhere they like while they are traveling inside the library. And by taking this advantage, lots of spaces could be designed as muti-

functionalities so that saves spaces on this extremely small site.

Fish Market (Miami River, Miami)

This Fish Market project locates at a extremely busy street where mostly occupied by fish market business. The character of nastiness, smell and chaos would be the first imipression. Besides focusing on making a future plan that delicated on flooding issue, and I also want to return the place with the power of nature and order. So I decide to remain the character of green land park where it was, and allow the market to go under the ground surface, so that transforms the flat landscape into a hill-like context, which also importantly block some unholy views from another side of the river. The fish market is composed with two important

functionalities, which is the market and the restuarant. I made

the distinguishing character between the two functionality. Which not only clearly help people realizing the particular designed circulation, but also help the huge artificial landscape remaining its presence while looking from behind might not be able to react to the fact that there is a market disguised by the “natural” landscape. And by massively using the curves will help the two functionalities smoothly and visually connected, also bring the architecture the sense of water that corresponding to the

local context.

Spatial Quality Design This Practice primiraly focus on creating spaces within 18”x18”x18” cubic boundary, which has to be controled by certain self-create rules to make a logic behind the complex. The set of rules I create for this practice could be precisely concluded as two words, they are “Intertwine” and “cohesion”. For the first stage of design, I develop these two seperate words into two different models. Each of the model represents one of the words. And the second stage of the design process is to combine these two ideas

into one. Which means the final model would be

representing both words “intertwine” and “conhesion” by creating such spaces. In considering of imagining the space would be used as public area, so the lights, circulation and entraces should become important

factors, and that might affects the final design.

Cutting one 9x9x9 inches foam bar ramdonly, and pick certain pieces that would be logical for the idea, to compose four volumns that growing from three corner on top and one from bottom, eventually meeting at the center of the 18x18x18” box in order to create a

point void space.

Family CouchThe design of couch is based on rigid architectual grid system. Reasonable space dis-tribution to create space for lying down, sitting down, leaning and table. This couch turns into a combination that provides most posibilities for any kind of family activities.

Low cost is the sub-priority to this project.

Mixture of Dinning And Working Table Station This table is designed for the purpose of working and dinning. As four residents are architecture students, the space of working is desprately needed. In the case, combination of functionalities would bring the most benefits for the practical purpose. In order to keep the budget low meanwhile creating a table with big top surface, the strategy is to use the recycled materials that is able to be found on the streets. Abandoned wood is the best out of all types of materials. First of all, it’s easy to collect. Secondly it’s easy to bulid structure with simple working tools. We found abandoned fire proof wood that was orginaly from fire door. And reorganize them into order, and transfer them into top surface of the table.And the bottom is installed with groups of paper tubes that we took from various printing labs. The paper tubes usually

are thrown away after it’s used.

Factorism Style Closet Design

This project is to make a strategy to design a closet which would bring the room a vibe of youth. The room is located in a 100 year old red brick 5 stories building. We think the best solution of this project is to recover the taste of history. We found some aban-don wood boards and water pipes. Combining these two totally different materials to bring the atmosphere of the room back to 50s, when New York is occupied with the existence of factories.
