WHAT IS ESI FOR INDIAN WORKER ESI, an abbreviation for Employee State Insurance, is a self-financing social security cum health insurance for Indian workers, it is a scheme where Indian workers and their families are protected under some unforced circumstances. It includes sickness, maternity, disablement (temporary or permanent), death due to employment injury. Under ESI the insured person and their family also get medical care.     REGISTRATION FOR ESIIt is mandatory for a company to register for ESI once the company employs 10 or morelow-earning employees (i.e. 21000). Companies need to register them within 15 days of the ESIAct, 1948 applicable to them. Now companies can also apply online for the ESI registration.Once all the documents and the application are verified, a 17-digit unique identity number will beprovided to the company. After the registration, the companies will need to file ESI returns twicea year.
