BackstoryJoko’s mother is from Eastern Australia

Lyrbirds don’t fly very far, Eora is an exception who wanted to explore the world from a young age.

She is a famous anthropologist who has lived with and studied many people across the world (from indigenous communities in Australia all the way to people in modern giant cities like Tokyo in Japan or New York in the USA)

Eora met Heribert in Zimbabwe while she was learning about the Shona people’s myths and he was studying Mbira music.

Appearance A lyrebird who has traveled around the world studying people. She is a intelligent and assertive bird, which often shows in the strength of her eyes.Eora wears clothing that has been given to her while traveling around the world as a part of her research.She is noticeably taller than her husband Heribert.

Inspiration Eora is the symbolic half of Joko (and the Joko’s World project) that loves traveling and learning about cultures of the world.

Appearance An European nightingale, and consequently is shorter than his wife Eora (a Lyrebird). As a sign of his wisdom, age, and experience he has a beard and a streak of white hair. His feathers/plumage is in the shape of a conductor's clothes with his tail making up the ‘tails’ of the suit. He also wears a bow-tie and has a conductor's wand on him often.

Inspiration Heribert is the symbolic half of Joko (and the Joko’s World project) that is drawing on music to explore culture.

Who is Heribert?BackstoryBorn in China. His parents migrated from Denmark.

He is a master musician and conductor.

He was often an honored guest of many of the great musicians, dancers and poets of the lands they would visit.

Eora met Heribert in Zimbabwe while he was studying Mbira music and she was learning about the Shona people’s myths

His ancestor’s love song was so beautiful that it inspired Shakespeare to write Sonnet 102 . His grandfather, an energetic fellow, inspired Franz Liszt to compose his Mephisto Waltz No. 1 and his father was the actual Nightingale that was singing in “A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square.”

Who is Uci?BackstoryAn orange creature from another planet that is interested in learning about the diverse cultures of our planet.

Uci’s planet has only one culture (something of an advanced mono-culture), so in learning about Earth’s diverse cultures it helps Uci’s species to think and do things in different ways and grow.

Joko meets Uci and other members of Uci’s species (also called Uci) on Joko’s adventures. Joko often facilitates Uci’s adventures, learning, and also helps gets Uci out of trouble.
