SSM Schools started with a markedly lower Pretest Score (47% lower) than the Control Schools, and finished
with a higher Endline Score (11% higher) than the Control Schools after four and a half months of SSM.

That is, the average Kelas 1 child at an SSM School improved by 50% more than the average child at a control
school, in Test 2 (Suku Kata).
Students who were taught using the SSM Teaching Programme made more progress than students who were
not. This result was not due to chance. See Appendix 2 for the statistical analysis demonstrating this.

SSM Schools started with a Pretest Score that was 76% lower than the Control Schools, and finished just
11% lower than the Control Schools. The average Kelas 2 child at an SSM School improved by 43% more
than the average child at a control school, in Test 3 (Kata).

ENDLINE SCORES for Kelas 3 (Baca Mandiri)
On average, the SSM students scored 31 % higher than the Control students in the Kelas 3 Endline Test for
Independent Reading and Comprehension.
Overall, 50% of children at SSM Schools passed the Endline Test, and 37% of children at the Control Schools passed the Endline Test.
On average, a higher percentage of SSM students passed the Endline Test than Control students.
So the SSM students started with a lower Pass Rate than the Control students, and finished with a higher Pass Rate than the Control students. That is, the SSM students made much more progress over the year than the Control students.
