JOINT OPERATING BODY

PERTAMINA-PETROCHINA EAST JAVA

I. BACKGROUND

Today, the technological advance requires students to get more knowledge in

order to become qualified human resources. The qualified human resources are well-

educated and professional excellence human resources. The quality formation of this

human resources becomes a responsibility for both education and the industrialized

world. University is a place where students as potential source of qualified human

resources are being trained and prepared to develop themselves in the industry. In the

industry development, not only science is needed, but also soft skills and attitude which

holds even more important role in the self development. Thus, we, as students who have

obtained the basic theories in college, should be prepared with the ability to implement

these theories in the industry or company.

Chemical Engineering is one of the scientific department that had been developed

so rapidly, especially for the applications in many areas of the industries, such as in the

petroleum industry. Therefore, in order to facilitate the gap of industry requirements, and

in accordance with the role of Diponegoro University as research & technology oriented

academic institution, Chemical Engineering Department , Diponegoro University suggest

the need for adjustment, in this case is the internship program at industrial enterprises.

The science of knowledge which acquired from the college is only the theoretical

ones. Therefore, we as the students need to implement these sciences in the real world,

which can be done by the internship program. This internship program is expected to

provide an opportunity for us to prepare ourselves with a variety of experiences before

going into the industry after our studies later.






Joint Operating Body Pertamina-Petrochina East Java is one of the largest mining

and processing oil in Indonesia that have been implemented the very good procedures of

standard mining technologies. Therefore, we are very interested to conduct the internship

program at this company.

II. BASIC ACTIVITY

The basis for this internship activities are:

1. Tri Dharma of University.

2. Curriculum of Chemical Engineering Department, Engineering Faculty, Diponegoro

University.

3. Internship subject to be taken by the student.

III. OBJECTIVES

The objectives to be achieved from the implementation of this internship program are:

1. Implement the theories that have been acquired from the college.

2. To increase creativity and skill of the student.

3. Getting used to the work experience.

4. Get the knowledge about the operations of industrial chemical processes.

5. To train student's sensitivity to find problem for the solution in the industrial word.

6. Completing the requirement needed in Chemical Engineering Department, Diponegoro

University.

IV. TARGET OF INTERNSHIP

After conducting internship in Joint Operating Body Pertamina-Petrochina East Java, the

student is expected to be:

1. Able to explain the specifications of raw materials and products of the Joint Operating

Body Pertamina-Petrochina East Java.

2. Able to describe the process flow diagram correctly.






3. Able to explain the complete steps of process correctly with description of the

operating condition from each instrument used at Joint Operating Body Pertamina-

Petrochina East Java.

4. Able to explain the reason for site selection of Joint Operating Body Pertamina-

Petrochina East Java.

5. Able to describe and explain the organizational structure of Joint Operating Body

Pertamina-Petrochina East Java.

6. Able to make conclusion based on observation and calculation during the internship at

Joint Operating Body Pertamina-Petrochina East Java.

7. Able to make a written report in accordance with applicable rules.

V. PARTICIPANT OF INTERNSHIP

The participant of this internship program are the students from Chemical

Engineering Department, Diponegoro University that consist of three students and has

been completed at least 4 (four) semesters. The details of participant are attached.

VI. BOUNDARIES TOPIC

For the boundaries topic of the internship program will be decided by Joint

Operating Body Pertamina-Petrochina East Java. But, We will propose some topic for the

boundaries topic, theses topics are Separation Process and Optimization of Operating

Conditions. For more specific topic can be adjusted based on conditions on the field.

VII. TIME ACTIVITIES

In accordance with the curriculum of Chemical Engineering Department,

Diponegoro University, the internship is a mandatory for the students as a pre-

requirement before the final task, and will be given of 2 credits and should be performed

at least a month.






The Internship program is planned to be conducted at :

Place : Joint Operating Body Pertamina-Petrochina East Java

Time : August − September 2014 (for a month)

For the real implementation, it will be adjusted with the policies of the Joint Operating

Body Pertamina-Petrochina East Java.

VIII. ACTIVITY OF INTERNSHIP

This internship program will be focused on case study and problem solving, with a

case during the program to be an appropriate assessment in accordance with the

capabilities, or to observe the working of a process or instrument to be reviewed in

accordance with the appropriate capabilities.

There are two categories of the boundaries skill that we find in Chemical

Engineering Department, Diponegoro University, that are food and energy.

The objective of this category division is to lead the Chemical Engineering

Profession to extend its specialization, according to the needs of Chemical Engineer

graduation nowadays. The internship will be conducted in accordance with the subject we

had studying, such as Utilities and Separation Technology.

The subjects will discuss about optimization of the chemical processes that occur

in the chemical industry. The Students are expected to be able to analyze and have a good

skill not only theoretically but also practically about optimization of chemical process.

This information is expected to give an idea which might become a trigger in determining

the areas of expertise in the implementation of internship in Joint Operating Body

Pertamina-Petrochina East Java.

To support the internship program, several methods should be done:

1. Interviews and discussions

2. Literature review

3. Observation

The case study that will be conducted during the internship should be used with the

existing field conditions, or in accordance with company decision. During the internship






program, we will have the responsibility to obey the company regulations, and the data

that obtained during the internship will be kept confidential and will not be disseminated,

and will be used only to complete a report that will be checked and approved by the

company.

IX. CLOSING

This Proposal was made as a consideration on our application in order to conduct

an internship program in Joint Operating Body Pertamina-Petrochina East Java. We hope

this Internship opportunity could be accomplished well with the guidance and direction

from Joint Operating Body Pertamina-Petrochina East Java. The evaluation for the

process can also be done by Joint Operating Body Pertamina-Petrochina East Java to

fulfil the objectives of this program. Thank you for your kind attention.
