(man)

Menurut Mariam, Kemenkominfo me-nyadari sosialisasi mengenai perlindungan data pribadi harus melibatkan masyarakat, akademisi, hingga perusahaan penyeleng-gara platform media sosial agar masyarakat memahami soal pentingnya data pribadi.

Lindungi MasyarakatAnggota Komisi I DPR Abdul Kadir Kar-

The Jakarta Post/MedanNadjmi Adhani, the mayor of Banjarbaru city in South Kali-mantan, passed away Monday after being hospitalized for two weeks for COVID-19.

Banjarbaru Disaster Mitiga-tion Agency head Zaini Syahra-nie said Nadjmi passed away at Ulin Regional General Hospital in Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan.

“Pak Nadji Adhani passed away at 2:30 a.m.,” Zaini said in a writ-ten statement on Monday as re-ported by kompas.com.

Nadjmi announced through an Instagram post in late July that he and his wife had tested positive for COVID-19.

Nadjmi was hospitalized after the announcement. However, his condition worsened on Sunday after intensive treatment.

He is the third regional leader to succumb to COVID-19. Syah-rul, the mayor of Tanjungpinang in Riau Islands province and Ap-tripel Tumimomor, the regent of North Morowali in Central Su-lawesi, died in April.

Other regional heads have also announced that they have con-tracted the virus, the latest be-ing acting Medan mayor Akhyar Nasution, who tested positive for COVID-19 last Tuesday after complaining of a fever.

Medan Health Agency head Edwin Eff endy said Akhyar was receiving treatment at Royal Pri-ma Hospital and was in stable condition.

“His condition, in general, is good, I hope he can recover quick-ly and resume his regular activi-ties,” Edwin told The Jakarta Post on Wednesday.

Those who had been in close contact with Akhyar had also been tested.

“Two agency heads who had close contact with the acting mayor had tested positive for CO-VID-19 and had since been hospi-talized. They are head of the Med-an Sanitary and Parks Agency, M. Husni, and head of the Medan La-bor Agency, Hannalore Siman-juntak,” Edwin said.

Other regional heads that have announced they tested positive for the novel coronavirus include Bogor Mayor Bima Arya, Karawa-ng Mayor Cellica Nurrachadiana, Bandung Deputy Mayor Yana Mu-lyana, Pemalang Regent Junaedi, Melawi Regent Panji and Surakar-ta Deputy Mayor Achmad Purno-mo, tempo.co reported. The Jakarta Post

JakartaPresident Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has appointed Army chief of staff Gen. Andika Perkasa as the depu-ty head of the government’s CO-VID-19 mitigation and national economic recovery committee.

The four-star army general will work alongside State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) Minister Er-ick Thohir, who was appointed to helm the committee.

Erick said Jokowi had appoint-ed Andika to assist him because the President thought the In-donesian Military (TNI) should be involved in handling the pan-demic. The military would work to discipline the public in adher-ing to the strict health protocol, he added.

“Disciplining the public is the key to public safety, but that doesn’t mean we will punish

them,” Erick said on Friday, as quoted by kompas.com.

The minister added the TNI would also help ensure the vac-cination process once a corona-virus vaccine was ready for mass production.

The COVID-19 handling and national economic recovery com-mittee was formed as mandated by a presidential regulation on COVID-19 mitigation and nation-al economic recovery signed by President Jokowi on July 20.

The committee was tasked with streamlining bureaucratic procedures related to the mitiga-tion of the pandemic and the eco-nomic downturn resulting from the health crisis.

It comprised two task forces: the national COVID-19 task force with National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) chairman Doni Monardo as its leader, and the economic recovery task force led

by Deputy SOEs Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin.

The country’s united fi ght against COVID-19 was initially put under the leadership of BNPB chief Doni Monardo. Doni was named National COVID-19 task force chief on March 13 through Presidential Decree No. 7/2020 on the National COVID-19 task force.

As the fi ght against COVID-19 cannot be separated from the much needed measures to restore the country’s economy, President Jokowi issued Presidential Regu-lation (Perpres) No. 82/2020 on July 20 on the establishment of a larger organization that will bring together eff orts to mitigate the pandemic and to save the coun-try from the economic downturn resulting from the health crisis — the COVID-19 mitigation and national economic recovery com-mittee, chaired by Erick Thohir. The Jakarta Post/Ambon, MalukuAn American tourist and profes-sional diving instructor has re-portedly gone missing while div-ing with her husband in Ambon Bay, Maluku.

Ambon administration secre-tary Antoni Latuheru said the vic-tim, Carol Marie Lakien, 56, bet-ter known as Laila, had come to Ambon with her husband, Kevin Scott Pool, and stayed at a hotel in Amahusu village, Nusaniwe district.

“[Lakien] is a professional div-ing instructor. She went to Am-bon on a private yacht with her husband, and they would often go diving in Ambon Bay,” Antoni told reporters on Saturday.

Antoni said the couple had been in Ambon since March and had not been able to go back to the United States due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Pool, Lakien’s husband, said both of them were diving instruc-tors and had come to Ambon on a vacation as they could not return to their home country yet.

He explained that, when the incident happened on Friday, bad weather struck as they were about to dive. Not long after that, the bad weather died down, and at

9 a.m. Kevin decided to dive fi rst, before his wife.

An hour later his wife had joined him, he said.

Later, Pool reportedly rose to the surface and waited for Lakien on their yacht, called Aquabago, but after several hours, she was still missing. He then called local authorities for help.

Djunaidi, head of the Am-bon Search and Rescue Offi ce, said his offi ce had been alerted and set out on a rescue eff ort at 1:39 p.m. with the help of local residents.

The search was suspended due to bad weather and resumed on Saturday.

On Saturday, Djunaidi said, a joint team of 20 professional div-ers from the Indonesian Navy, the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) in Ambon, the Maluku Police’s water and air unit (Polairud) and a diving as-sociation was deployed to search for Lakien.

The divers were divided into three teams with a focus on the lo-cation where Lakien was reported missing.

“We added personnel on the second day because of the chang-ing currents and weather condi-tions,” he said, adding that the search was still ongoing. (syk)

Public warned of more Mt. Sinabung eruptionsApriadi Gunawan

The Jakarta Post/MedanAuthorities have advised the pub-lic to remain alert over poten-tial future eruptions at Mount Sinabung in Karo regency, North Sumatra, as the volcano has erupted several times since the weekend following a year-long absence of volcanic activity.

The latest string of eruptions occurred on Monday, with Mt. Sinabung spewing a 5,000-meter-high column of volcanic ash and smoke from the peak of the moun-tain at 10:16 a.m., followed by a second eruption at 11:17 a.m. that produced a 2,000-m-high column of ash, according to the Center for Volcanology and Geological Haz-

ard Mitigation (PVMBG).A PVMBG offi cial of the

Sinabung observation post, Ar-men Putera, told The Jakarta Post that the volcanic ash from Monday’s eruption had covered at least three districts in Karo and turned the sky dark, especially in Namanteran district, which is located 5.2 kilometers from the mountain.

More eruptions are likely to ensue in the following days, given the recent increase in frequency of tectonic earthquakes that rat-tled the volcano, he said.

“We have recorded increased tectonic earthquakes in Mt. Sinabung over the past 12 hours. These are signs of eruptions,” Ar-men said, “We have to increase

our vigilance and avoid the dan-ger zone of Mt. Sinabung.”

At least three districts — Na-manteran, Merdeka and Berasta-gi — had been directly aff ected by Monday’s eruptions and covered by volcanic ash, according to the Karo Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD).

“Residents have been forced to halt their activities because the ash is thick, [the afternoon] sky is similar to a night sky because it is covered in ash,” BPBD Karo act-ing chairperson Natanael Peran-gin-angin told the Post.

Mt. Sinabung erupted again for the fi rst time after 14 months of inactivity at 1:58 a.m. on Saturday, spewing a 2,000-m-high column of volcanic ash that later spread

to Berastagi, located some 30 km from the volcano.

A second eruption occurred later at 5:18 p.m. on the same day, producing a 1,000-m-high col-umn of ash.

M. Nurul Asrori, an offi cial of the Sinabung observation post, told the Post on Sunday that the eruptions over the weekend in-dicated that Mt. Sinabung had turned active again following its period of inactivity.

The PVMBG could not precise-ly predict when the next eruption would take place, but considering the recent situation, Nurul said a subsequent eruption of a larger scale was imminent.

“We ask residents and tourists to exercise caution, stay away from

Mt. Sinabung. Keep your guard up, because a larger eruption could oc-cur anytime,” he said.

As of Monday afternoon, the local administration had yet to issue an offi cial evacuation order for residents who live near the volcano. The majority of them have reportedly remained in their homes to clean up their yards and plantations from volcanic ash.

Natanael of the BPBD Karo also reminded the public to steer clear of areas designated as “dan-ger zones” surrounding the volca-no, especially after local authori-ties found that a number of locals and tourists were still trying to enter the areas for sightseeing on Sunday.

“This is very dangerous be-

cause Mt. Sinabung could erupt again at any time,” he said, adding that a patrol team deployed by the agency on Sunday had since es-corted the civilians to safety.

The 2,460 m Mt. Sinabung roared back to life in 2010 for the fi rst time in 400 years. After an-other period of inactivity, it erupt-ed once more in 2013 and has re-mained highly active since.

At least 16 people died in one of Sinabung’s eruptions in 2014. Two years later, another eruption killed seven.

Indonesia is home to about 130 volcanoes because of its position on the Ring of Fire, a belt of tec-tonic plate boundaries circling the Pacifi c Ocean where frequent seismic activity occurs. (rfa)
