Teenagers life in England / UK

What is the life of a teenager like in England?

Teenagers in England do much the same as kids in America or other European countries do. They enjoy chatting to and texting friends on their mobiles, hanging out with their mates, listening to the latest music on their MP3 players, shopping for the latest fashions or just watching movies on the television or at the cinema (movie house).

    Pocket Money

The average weekly pocket money for 12 to 16 year olds is 9.53.

Brian is a typical English teen. This is what he says about his free time activities

In my free time I swim, go into town, text my mates, do household stuff with my mum and dad, go on the internet, watch TV and play on my Playstation and Gamegear!

I listen to music all the time! I have an MP3 and a CD player. In Britain, most youths listen to punk, garage, house, rock, pop and R&B (such as Busted, McFly, JLo, Xtina, Beyonce, Pink, Britney, Justin Timberlake, Mis-teeq).

  • Every year about 130.000 km2 of humid tropical rain forest is destroyed. Caused in part by the slash-and-burn practices of both large- and small-scale farmers in Brazil, Cameroon, Indonesia, and elsewhere, the environmental implications of tropical deforestation and its threat to biodiversity and carbon emissions remain a worldwide concern. Yet the small-scale farmers who use slash-and-burn agriculture depend on it to produce food and make a living for their families. Balancing the legitimate interests of rural households and global concerns about tropical deforestation is one of the major challenges of the coming decades. () With contributions from agronomists, foresters, economists, ecologists, and anthropologists, this book synthesizes the first decade of alternatives to slash-and-burn (ASB)s work. It assesses the environmental, economic, and social impact of deforestation and identifies the costs and benefits of alternative uses of forests and cleared land. ()
