Dear Guests and Delegates:
It is indeed my pleasure to welcome every one of you, Adventists from every walk of life who are
selflessly committed to sharing Christ with the world, to the Adventist-Laymen's Services and
Industries (ASI) convention of the Southern Asia-Pacific Division. I am delighted to see the progress of
SSD ASI convention attendance, projects, and activities.
The commitment and dedication of ASI members to be active witnesses for the Lord in the workplace
is inspiring and transforming. Ellen White counsels us that, The work in this earth can never be
finished until the men and women comprising our church membership rally to the work, and unite
efforts with those of ministers and church officers . . ., Gospel Workers, p. 352. ASI is an extensive
and a tremendous blessing to the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Your connection with the church is
very influential and this serves vital instrument from God to rally and reach out to the world with God
given mission.
As you participate in the worship and fellowship, deliberation and discussion, may this auspicious
event and blessed experience strengthen your faith, brighten your hope, deepen your love, broader
your sympathy and your will more resolute to do God's will.
May this convention meet its purpose to inspire, equip, and transform each of the delegates to "Arise
and Build" in all aspects of life for sharing Christ in the work place and the environment in which you
live to exert positive Christian influence!

2016 ASI Southern Asia-Pacific Convention Attendees
Dear ASI Attendees:
Welcome to the 2016 ASI - Southern Asia Pacific Convention. I have participated in a number of ASI
Conventions in the past, and every time I attend, I am impressed by the enthusiastic response of our
lay members who are successful professionals and business executives. They recognize that their
businesses are only means to an end, and the end purpose is mission.
There are two church models that we see in each congregation. The first is the membership model
and the second is the discipleship model. The membership model is characterized by members
detachment from the ministry of the church. The pastor is the center of the church, and he does
everything from preaching to buying church supplies. Church members are bystanders with no
involvement in the life and ministry of the church.
The discipleship model is different. In this model, church members realize that their duty does not
consist solely in church attendance. They are called to be disciples of Christ, to play an active role in
the mission of the church. The church is a living organism, therefore, growth is an imperative part
of the church. In this model, members are trained and deployed as witnesses to the world. They
approach their work and recreation differently. Their goal focused on bringing as many people to
Jesus as possible before the world is destroyed.
Many ASI members have adopted the discipleship model, and the church has been blessed as a result.
Praise God for dedicated professionals. May the Lord bless you as you listen to His voice during this
convention.
Grace and Peace,

Dear distinguished Guests, Speakers, ASI Officers, Delegates and Friends,
Welcome to Bali! A place called Heaven on earth. It's a beautiful place to visit and nice location to
gather altogether for holiday and meetings as well.
On behalf of ASI Southern Asia-Pacific Division, I would like to welcome you to this beautiful island
on our ASI Convention 2016. It is "ARISE AND BUILD" as the theme for this year, that taken from
Nehemiah 2:17-18. Nehemiah was the King Artaxerxes cupbearer when the project begun. He was
considered as the professional who does his works and the one that set up the idea to rebuild the
wall of Jerusalem, which the city of his father's tombs located. Nehemiah showed his leadership and
whole hearted commitment for the cause of God by initiating the re-building of the wall of Jerusalem.
Prophets and Kings p. 638 quote as follow: The appeal went straight to their hearts. The thought
of how Heavens favor had been manifested toward them put their fears to shame, and with new courage they said with one voice, "Let us rise up and build." So they strengthened their hands for this
good work. Nehemiah's whole soul was in the enterprise he had undertaken. His hopes, his energy,
his enthusiasm, his determination, were contagious, inspiring others with the same high courage and
lofty purpose. Each man became a Nehemiah in his turn and helped to make stronger the heart and
hand of his neighbor."
What a good example of God's people that committed with his tasks, especially on these last days.
We're facing so many uncertainties in our modern life, famine, disease, wars, criminals, businesses
and economics, plus the technology that could be "boomerang" in our daily activities. Let's ARISE,
prepare our hearts and thoughts to do all things that should we do. BUILD our character, faith and
hope as God wants us to do in our life. Be strong and ready for HIS second coming.
Enjoy your days in Bali and may GOD's blessings be with you always.

at a contractor company. In 1996, after graduated, I worked at a consultant company as a temporary employee and was assigned to work in Seram Island, Ambon. Following my marriage in Ambon and went back to Makassar, we faced a financial problem. Then came a day when we had nothing to eat. Often, we lived from other’s pity and sympathy. Until in 2002, I went to Timika, Papua
and worked at a consultant company, despite the low salary and due to the condition in Timika, I had been hospitalized several times. Then in 2003, my wife and my two children left Makassar to Timika for good. On Mei 7, 2007, I was dismissed from work leaving no house nor transportation. But ”GOD IS GOOD” He gave us a chance to work on our own company CV. ALTRIX PERMATA KONSULTAN where all the administrations were managed starting from 2003 until 2006.
In Agustus 2007, we did a governmental project as a consultant for Planning and Supervision projects. In 2008, we made a commitment to be involved in theGod’s work as a sponsor for Evangelistic Meeting which started in June 2008 at Seram Island, Ambon with Ps. Yotam Bindosano (Our Ministry Advisor) as the main speaker with 68 baptism, and continued to some other places until in 2009, I learned how to speak and deliver the Word of God.
Praise God! Starting from May 30 to June 5 2010, God gave me the trust and opportunities to be the main speaker of an Evangelistic Meeting series in Sorong, West Papua, with the theme "Badai Pasti Berlalu" (The Storm Will Surely Pass). We have been continually using this theme because it is our family life experience on how we had lived from nothing.
Since our early ministry in 2008 until the end of 2015, 1174 souls have been won through baptism including from our Evangelistic Meeting at Hapaan, Southern Myanmar, which was translated by Ps. Johnny Lubis, and Evangelistic Meeting at Davao, southern Philippine and Alcantara-Romblon, Central Philippine which was translated by Ps. Happy Sibilang. ADVENTIST-LAYMEN'S SERVICES AND INDUSTRIES
WHAT IS ASI?
Adventist-laymen's Services and Industries (ASI) is an organization of Seventh-day Adventist church members who own or work in the in businesses, in professional vocations, in self supporting ministries and in private and public sectors. The uniqueness of ASI is twofold:
1. We recognized that our time, talents, treasures and body temple belong to God. We are stewards of these possessions. Accordingly, we believe that our vocations can and should be a ministry to aid in the advancement of the great gospel commission (Luke 19:13; Testimonies vol. 4, p. 469).
2. We are committed to supporting the Seventh-day Adventist Church and its various outreach programs which include health, education, evangelism, community services, family concerns and special projects.
ASI members are men and women from nearly every walk of life. They represent all the diversity that is found within our church. ASI has membership throughout the world.
The ASI philosophy promotes a Christ-centered lifestyle, manifested by a committment to be in daily partnership with God. Members seek to live out God's love in their own lives and share that love with the millions of people they encounter in their business and professional activities each year. Their motto is: Sharing Christ in the Marketplace.
MISSION AND VISION
Mission
ASI -- the organization of Seventh-day Adventist lay persons involved in professions, industry, education, and/or services -- exists to provide challenge, nurture and experience in Sharing Christ in the Marketplace as well as support the global mission of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
Vision
ASI and its members will be known for their unswerving honesty in business principles and practices, unflagging participation in the various ministries of the Church, unwavering positiveness toward Church leadership, unhesitating provision for the needs of others, and untiring focus on the Christ they represent in the marketplace.
asi-ssd.adventist.asia 23
The story begins...
ASI's history is rooted in Madison College, an Adventist self-supporting institution established in 1904 near Nashville, Tennessee by E.A. Sutherland and Percy Magan. As Madison expanded it began to plant satellite schools and institutions around the country. In 1947 these self-supporting entities formed the Association of Seventh-day Adventist Self-Supporting Institutions, or ASI.
At the time, ASI members were educational or health outfits. Over the years however, ASI membership began to include businesses and Adventist entrepreneurs and professionals. Thus in 1979, to better reflect ASI's diverse membership, the organization's name was changed to Adventist-laymen's Services & Industries
Following approval in 1947 by the General Conference, 25 lay organizations formed ASI - Association of Self-supporting Institutions.
During ASI's first organizational meeting in 1945, frequent reference was made to Ellen White's statement... "that the end of this world's history will never come until lay membership unite their efforts with those of the church officers and ministers."
ASI's original goal was to unify the work of self-supporting lay workers and ministries. ...and strengthen their ties with the Seventh-day Adventist denomination they served.
Eventually, ASI expanded to include Adventist business owners and professionals who shared ASI's vision for lay-driven mission work. In 1979, the organization changed its name to Adventist-laymen's Services & Industries to reflect its increasingly diverse membership.
Today, ASI unites the efforts of lay individuals, business professionals, and ministries in sharing the gospel worldwide. In addition, ASI and its members collectively support and cooperate with the organized mission of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Each year, ASI members hold an international convention to encourage one another and to exchange ideas vital to their lay ministry goals. ASI conventions are energetic, inspiring affairs where networks are formed and plans are made. ...that one individual or institution could never accomplish alone. ASI conventions feature dynamic speakers. ...and stimulating seminars on personal witnessing, spiritual growth, health, and preparing for Christ's imminent return.
Everyone is welcome... "Attending an ASI convention is not a cost-it's an investment." ASI WILL CHANGE THE WAY YOU SEE MISSION.***

TANAH LOT
Tanah Lot, one of the most popular places of interest in Bali, is located on the
coast of West Bali, at the village of Beraban in the Tabanan Regency.
It is also called Tanah Let which means ancient land and also Tanah Lod, which
means the land to the south.
The temple Pura Tanah Lot, simple in its construction, is dramatic in its ocean-
front location and is one of the main temples in the worship of Balinese gods.
Tanah Lot has a long history in the world of tourism. The temple itself is built
on a small promontory which is only accessible at low tide. During high water
the rock takes on the appearance of a large boat at sea, such is its shape. Poi-
sonous snakes live in the nearby caves to "guard" the temple and contribute to
the temple's dangerous reputation. Sunset is the best time to visit Tanah lot,
when the golden red skies frame the temple and waves crash into the rocks. It
is advisable to avoid the tourist crush here as it can be severe.
Tanah Lot Temple in Bali
Tanah Lot Temple is one of Bali's most important landmarks, famed for
its unique offshore setting and sunset backdrops. An ancient Hindu shrine
perched on top of an outcrop amidst constantly crashing waves; The temple is
located in the Beraban village of the Tabanan regency, an approximate 20km
northwest of Kuta, and is included on most tours to Bali's western and central
regions.
Legend of Tanah Lot
Dang Hyang Nirartha, a high priest from the Majapahit Kingdom in East Java
who travelled to Bali in 1489 to spread Hinduism, arrived at the beautiful area
and established a site honouring the sea god, Baruna. Here, he shared his
teachings to Beraban villagers, only to face opposition from the village chief
who soon gathered his loyal followers to dispel Nirartha. The priest resisted,
incredibly shifting a large rock he meditated upon out to sea while transform-
ing his sashes into sea snakes to guard at its base. The rock's original name,
Tengah Lod, means "in the sea".
Acknowledging Nirartha's powers, the humbled chief vowed allegiance. Before
setting off, Nirartha gifted him a holy kris dagger, which is now among the

sanctified heirlooms of the Kediri royal palace. Pilgrims bring these relics
each Kuningan day by foot on an 11km pilgrimage to the Luhur Pakendungan
temple, the priest's former meditational site.
Tanah Lot Highlights and Features
After centuries of large waves persistently crashing at its rock base, Tanah Lot
faced the constant threat of erosion, reaching a significant decline in 1980.
The authorities carried out preservation efforts to Tanah Lot and other histori-
cal sites island-wide with aid from the Japanese government. Fully restored, a
third of the present Tanah Lot is actually artificial rock.
At high tide, waves flood the causeways making it impossible to cross. At low
tide, you may cross to view the rock base where the legendary "guardian" sea
snakes dwell in crevices around the Tirta Pabersihan fountain. This natural
spout is the source of holy water for all the temples in the area. Priests at the
fountain bless visitors by sprinkling holy water over their heads. You can cup
your palms and take a sip to prove it is amazingly fresh water.
Onshore temples include the Penyawang, a spiritual proxy to Tanah Lot that
hosts pilgrims when the main offshore temple is inaccessible during high tide.
Other smaller temples around the site host prayer sessions for various aspects
of the villagers' agrarian life, from good rice harvests to rites of passage.
North of Tanah Lot is Batu Bolong, similarly built on a rock formation with a
'hollow' overpass linking to the mainland.
Convenient pathways and well-kept tropical gardens line the grounds from
Tanah Lot to Batu Bolong,
with resting spots offering
shades and good view-
points to both outcrops.
Art shops selling souvenirs
and curios of all sorts line
the pathway from the
parking area to the temple,
also with peddlers selling
traditional snacks such
as jaja kelepon 'yummy,
must-try palm sugar-filled
gelatinous balls rolled in
grated coconut.***
