Latar Belakang

Sosiologi berawal dari perubahan masyarakat di Eropa Barat. Ini diakibatkan karena adanya Revolusi Industri yang dilakukan oleh Inggris dan juga Revolusi Perancis

Back Ground

Sociology originated from the changing society in Western Europe. This is causedbecause of the Industrial Revolution by the British and the French Revolution

•Revolusi Industri (Inggris)

Dengan revolusi ini, pola-pola tradisional ditinggalkan dan muncullah teknologi baru yang bertujuan untuk mempermudah sekaligus meningkatkan produksi masyarakat dan dengan demikian dapat meningkatkan taraf hidup masyarakat Inggris.

• The Industrial Revolution (British)

With this revolution, abandoned traditional patterns and new technologies emerged that aim to simplify and increase the production of society and thus can improves the lives of British society.

•Revolusi Perancis

Dengan berakhirnya masa Revolusi Perancis, semua orang berharap bahwa Kesamaan (Egalite), Persaudaraan (Fraternite) dan Kebebasan (Liberte) yang menjadi semboyan Revolusi benar-benar akan terwujud.

•The France Revolution

By the end of the French revolution, everyone hoped that the similiraty (Egality), Brotherhood (Fraternite), and Freedom (Liberte) which as Revolution slogan will actually materialize

Namun, Apa yang terjadi???

Dampak Negatif Akibat Revolusi

IndustriKaum buruh semakin ditekan oleh segelintir orang yang memiliki modal dan perusahaan

Kelas-kelas sosial bukannya dihapus, melainkan makin nyata

Timbulnya kesenjangan sosial antara yang kaya dengan yang miskin.

Konflik antarkelas menjadi tak terhindarkan

Sociology in Europe

Menurut Berger dan Berger, Sosiologi berkembang menjadi ilmu yang berdiri sendiri karena adanya ancaman terhadap tatanan sosial yang selama ini dianggap sudah seharusnya demikian nyata dan benar.

According to Berger and Berger, sociology developed into an independent branch of knowledge because there were threats to the social orders that prevailed at the time.

L. Laeyendecker mengidentifikasikan ancaman tersebut meliputi :

1. Terjadinya dua Revolusi, yakni revolusi Industri dan Revolusi Perancis2. Tumbuhnya kapitalisme pada akhir abad

ke-153. Perubahan yang terjadi akibat gerakan reformasi yang dicetuskan Martin Luther

4. Perubahan dibidang sosial dan politik

5. Meningkatnya individualisme

6. Lahirnya ilmu pengetahuan modern

7. Berkembangnya kepercayaan pada diri sendiri

yang berperan penting dalam perkembangan sosiologi, seperti :

1. Emile Durkheim (1858-1917)Dia mengembangkan metodologi sosiologi melalui bukunya Rules of Sociology.

2. Karl Marx (1818-1883)3. Max Weber (1864-1920)

4. Hebert Spencer (1820-1903)

Dia mempopulerkan istilah sosiologi lewat bukunya yang berjudul Principles of Sociology. Setelah buku Spenser terbit, sosiologi kemudian berkembang pesat keseluruh dunia, termasuk Indonesia

a. Sosiologi di Indonesia

Sosiologi di Indonesia sebenarnya telah berkembang sejak zaman dahulu. Sri Paduka Mangkunegoro IV, misalnya, telah memasukkan unsur tata hubungan manusia pada berbagai golongan yang berbeda dalam ajaran Wulang Reh

a. Sociology in Indonesia

Sociology has been developing in Indonesia since ancient times. For example, his Majesty Mangkunegoro IV intruduced elements of intergroup relationships into his teaching of Wulang Reh

Lalu, berbagai karya yang ditulis oleh beberapa orang Belanda seperti Snouck Hurgronje yang menggunakan unsur-unsur sosiologi sebagai kerangka berpikir untuk memahami masyarakat Aceh.

And then, various writings about Indonesia in the 19th-century by Dutch writers such as Snouck Hurgronje who applied elements of sociology to their frames of thinking in trying to understand Acehnese society.

Dari uraian diatas terlihat bahwa sosiologi di Indonesia pada awalnya, yakni sebelum Perang Dunia II hanya dianggap sebagai ilmu pembantu bagi ilmu-ilmu lainnya.

From our discussion above we see that in Indonesia, prior to World War II, sociology was considered only as an aid tool to other sciences.

b. Perkembangan Sosiologi di Indonesia

Secara formal, Sekolah Tinggi Hukum di Jakarta pada waktu itu menjadi satu-satunya lembaga perguruan tinggi yang mengajarkan mata kuliah sosiologi di Indonesia walaupun hanya sebagai pelengkap mata kuliah ilmu hukum. Namun, seiring perjalanan waktu, mata kuliah tersebut kemudian ditiadakan.

b. Development of Sociology in Indonesia

At the time, the College of Law (Rechtsshogeschool) in Jakarta was only higher educational institution in Indonesia where sociology was formally taught, albeit only to complement law classes.

Setelah proklamasi kemerdekaan Indonesia pada tahun 1945, sosiologi di Indonesia mengalami perkembangan yang cukup signifikan.

Adalah Soenario Kolopaing yang pertama kali memberikan kuliah sosiologi dalam bahasa Indonesia pada tahun 1948 di Akademi Politik Yogyakarta (sekarang menjdi Fakultas Ilmu Sosial dan Politik UGM)

After Indonesia gained independence in 1945, sociology began to undergo significant developments.

In 1948, Soenario Kolopaking gave the very first lectruse in sociology in the Indonesia language at the Yogyakarta Academy of Social Sciences (now the Faculty of Social and Political of Gadjah Mada University)

Lalu, buku sosiologi dalam Bahasa Indonesia pertama kali diterbitkan oleh Djody Gondokusumo dengan judul Sosiologi Indonesia yang memuat beberapa pengertia mendasar dari sosiologi.

And then, the first textbook on sociology language, Sosiologi Indonesia written by Djody Gondokusumo. Thought it contained a basic understanding of sociology the text book was well received among the educated circle.

Selanjutnya bermunculan buku-buku sosiologi baik yang ditulis oleh orang Indonesia maupun yang merupakan terjemahan dari bahasa asing.

Selain itu, muncul pula fakultas ilmu sosial dan politik berbagai universitas di Indonesia dan didirikan pula jurusan sosiologi yang diharapkan dapat mempercepat dan memper luas perkembangan sosiologi di Indonesia

Other literature on sociology, either written by Indonesians or translated, began to be published.

Many universities throughout Indonesia also began establishing faculties of social of social and political sciences and some universities even established departments of sociology which accelerated the development of sociology in Indonesia
