  • Degradasi Sampah Kota Proses degradasi sampah kota dengan menggunakan mikroba terbagi dalam dua cara, yaitu secara aerob (dengan supply udara yang cukup) dan anaerob (tanpa udara). Pada proses degradasi secara aerob akan dihasilkan gas CO2 dengan waktu degradasi yang relatif singkat, sedangkan pada degradasi secara anerob disamping dihasilkan gas CO2 juga dihasilkan gas CH4 dengan waktu degradasi yang lebih lama

    bahan-bahan organik dikonversi menjadi gas metan dan karbon dioksida tanpa kehadiran oksigenBiogas sekitar 95 sampai 98 persen dari gas yang terbentuk.   • Dalam proses biologi anaerob, konversi bahan organik ini dilakukan oleh dua kelompok bakteri utama. bakteri pembentuk asam (acid-formers)bakteri penghasil metan (methane bacteria)

  • Fase Proses Degradasi Sampah SecaraAnaerobikFase I (fase awal) fase aerobik periode pendek terdekomposisi dan menghasilkan gas karbondioksidaFase II (fase transisi), fase anaerobik tahap pertama Aktivitas fermentasi dan bakteri asetogenik menghasilkan asam lemak volatil, karbondioksida dan gas hidrogen. Cairan leachate mengandung asam lemak dengan konsentrasi tinggi, kalsium, besi, logam berat lain dan amonia. hidrolisis dan fermentasi sebagian komponen protein. Kandungan nitrogen dalam biogas akan berkurang, karena dihasilkann gas karbondioksida dan hidrogen. Kandungan sulfat yang tinggi akan menurunkan potensial redoks, dan sulfida dapat mengendapkan logam-logam seperti besi, mangan dan logam berat lainnya.

  • Fase III (fase pembentukan asam)fase anaerobik tahap kedua di mana akan mulai tumbuh bakteri metan secara perlahan-lahan. Konsentrasi metan dalam gas akan bertambah, sementara konsentrasi hidrogen, karbon dioksida dan asam lemak volatile akan berkurang.Konsentrasi sulfat akan berkurang yang dilanjutkan dengan reduksi sulfat.Konversi asam lemak akan menyebabkan pH dan alkalinitas meningkat, dan mengakibatkan menurunnya kelarutan kalsium, besi, mangan dan logam berat, yang mengendap sebagai sulfida. Amonia masih tetap dan tidak dikonversikan dalam lingkungan anaerobik.Fase IV, fase pembentukan metan, laju produksi metan akan perlahan-lahan stabil sampai mencapai konsentrasi 50-65% volume. Tingginya laju pembentukan metan ada hubungannya dengan makin rendahnya konsentrasi asam lemak volatil dan hidrogen. Fase V (fase maturasi). hanya tersisa senyawa karbon yang sukar terdegradasi, laju produksi metan akan turun sehingga gas nitrogen dari atmosfir akan mulai terdifusi kembali.

  • High Solids Anaerobic Digestion proses biologis dimana fermentasi terjadi pada kandungan total solid lebih besar dari 22 persen atau lebih. pengaplikasiannya untuk recovery energi dari kandungan organik sampah Keuntungan utama dari proses high solid anaerobic kebutuhan air yang rendah dan tingginya produksi gas per unit volume dari ukuran reaktor. akibat kondisi tingginya kandungan solid, efek dari sejumlah parameter lingkungan pada populasi mikrobiologi lebih tinggi.Sebagai contoh, toksisitas amonia dapat mempengaruhi bakteri metanogenik dalam menghasilkan metan. Pada banyak kasus, toksisitas amonia dapat dicegah dengan penjagaan rasio C/N pada input. Kelemahan utama dari proses ini saat ini adalah pengoperasian dalam skala penuh yang sangat terbatas.

  • Potensi biogas 1 . Perhitungan teoritis 547 L gas-bio/Kg sampah kering210 L gas-metan/Kg sampah keringBila kandungan kertas tampah banyak, maka angka-angka tersebut akan tambah tinggi. Bila dianggap bahwa seluruh materi volatil dari sampah adalah terdiri dari selulosa, maka secara teoritis produksi gas metan maksimum adalah 414,5 liter/Kg-MV, (Buivid.et.al, 1981;Hoeks, 1983; Strensom et.al.1983).Schumacher (1983) memberikan nilai 0,04 cuft/lb sampah/tahun. (0.0025 m3/kg sampah/tahun Dengan memasukkan komposisi biopolimer potensi maksimum gas metan 210 liter/Kg-Materi Solid (MS) Rees (1980), 547 liter/Kg-MS Pfeefer (1974)
