THE SIMPLE TENSES
1. SIMPLE PRESENT TENSE
in general, simple present expresses events or situations thatexist always, usually, habitually; that exist now, have existedin the past, and probably will exist in the future.
2. PRESENT CONTINUOUS TENSE2. PRESENT CONTINUOUS TENSE
Expresses an activity that is in progress at the moment ofspeaking
3. SIMPLE PAST TENSE
At one particular time in the past, this happened. It began andended in the past.
4. SIMPLE FUTURE TENSE
At one particular time in the future, this will happen.

THE SIMPLE PRESENT
The simple present says that something was true in the past, is true inthe present, and will be true in the future. It is used for generalstatements of fact.
a. Water consists of hydrogen and oxygen.

The simple present is used to express habitual or everyday activity.
a. I study for two hours every night.
b. He always eats a sandwich for lunch
Certain verb are not used in the progressive tenses.
with these verbs, the simple present may indicate situation that existsright now, at the moment of speaking.

if the sentece contains when and has the simplepast in both clauses, the action in the “when clause”happens first.

SIMPLE FUTURE
Will or be going to is used to express futuretime
In speech, going to is often pronounced“gonna”“gonna”
The use of shall with I or We to expressfuture time is possible but uncommond inAmerican English. Shall is used much morefrequently in British than American English.
