TENSES : Ialah hubungan antara WAKTU kejadian dalam suatu

A. PRESENT FORMS

1. Simple Present Tense :

a. Infinitive tanpa “TO” atau STEM

b. Infinitive tanpa “TO” + s/es, bila subjectnya ( He, She, It )

c. Be, is, am, are, bila dalam kalimatnya tidak ada VERB

I speak English fluently

Examples :

I see two climbers on the top of the mountain

An old woman gets up at five o’clock everyday

The sun rises in the best

2. Present Continous Tense :

a. ( am, is, are ) + VERB + ING

I am speaking English fluently

Examples :

The boys are quarelling again now

My girl friend comes, when I am reading

What are you doing here ?

I am waiting for my brother

3. Present future tense :

a. Shall + infinitive tanpa “TO”

b. Will + infinitive tanpa “TO”

I shall speak English fluently

Examples :

Father will leave for New York next Wednesday

John will come, if you invite him

Whom shall we go to the museum with ?

We shall go to the museum with our friends

4. Present Future Continous Tense :

a. Shall be + VERB + ING

b. Will be + VERB + ING

I shall be speaking English fluently

Examples :

This afternoon I shall be playing football, so you had better come

tomorrow

This time tomorrow he will be travelling by train to Malang

5. Present Perfect Tense :

a. Have + past participle/VERB + ED

b. Has + past participle/VERB + ED

I have spoken English fluently

Examples :

It is eight o’clock in the morning. My father has gone to the office

We have lived in Jakarta for three years

Where have you got the information ?

I have got it from a daily news

6. Present Perfect Continous Tense :

a. Have been + VERB + ING

b. Has been + VERB + ING

I have been speaking English fluently

Examples :

Please don’t disturb me. I have been working on my assignment

My brother has been working for that firm since last year

How long have you been waiting?

I have been waiting for you for more than half an hour

7. Present Future Perfect Tense :

a. Shall have + past participle/VERB + ED

b. Will have + past participle/VERB + ED

I shall have spoken English fluently

Examples :

I shall have delivered the goods for three days next month

8. Present Future Perfect Continous Tense :

a. Shall have been + VERB + ING

b. Will have been + VERB + ING

I shall have been speaking English fluently

Examples :

I shall have been teaching till 10 o’clock tomorrow. So you can come

any time after 10o’clock

B. PAST FORMS

1. Simple Past Tense :

a. VERB + ED, bila regular verbs

b. Preterite/past, bila irregular verbs

I worked hard

Examples :

Our teacher told us a fine story yesterday

John was listening the radio, - when I came in

Did you finish the assignment?

Yes, I did

2. Past Continous Tense :

a. (was, were ) + VERB + ING

You were working hard

Examples :

I was walking in the park, when I met my teacher yesterday

I looked at him, while he was talking

Where was he talking ? He was talking near the bridge

3. Past Future Tense :

a. Should + infinitive tanpa “TO”

b. Would + infinitive tanpa “TO”

He would work hard

Examples :

He told me that he would go to Tokyo on Sunday

Mung would call on us, if she arrived from Singapore

What would you like to drink? I should like to have coffee

4. Past Future Continous Tense :

a. Should be + VERB + ING

b. Would be + VERB + ING

Examples :

5. Past Perfect Tense :

a. Had + past participle/VERB + ING

6. Past Perfect Continous Tense :

a. Had been + VERB + ING

They had been working hard

Examples :

since dinner time

7. Past Future Perfect Tense :

a. Should have + past participle/VERB + ED

Examples :

8. Past Future Perfect Continous Tense :
