PengertianPencemaran sungai adalah tercemarnya air sungai yang disebabkan oleh limbah industri, limbah penduduk, limbah peternakan, bahan kimia dan unsur hara yang terdapat dalam air serta gangguan kimia dan fisika yang dapat mengganggu kesehatan manusia.

Penyebablimbah industri, pertanian dan rumah tangga.Penggunaan insektisida seperti DDT (Dichloro Diphenil Trichonethan) oleh para petani, untuk memberantas hama tanaman dan serangga penyebar penyakit lain secara berlabihan dapat mengakibatkan pencemaran air.Pembuangan sampah organic maupun yang anorganic yang dibuang kesungai terus-menerus, selain mencemari air, terutama dimusim hujan ini akan menimbulkan banjir.

Background/ HistoryPollution in Wabash due to 3 main causes:Waste- treatment plants that do not function properly release harmful effluents (ex: ammonia, chlorine etc.) Runoff from fields where animals graze cause soil sedimentation.Minor level of mercury in fish due to air pollutants which mix with the water during the rains.

ProblemThe main cause runoff from fieldsSoil gets washed off fields and banks of rivers.Nutrients present in the soil mix with the water.Bacteria like E coli. grow due to nutrients.

Residents are aware but are not educated about the present situationCommon misperception Wabash is being polluted with pollutants.
