Page 7: Tip & Trik Motret.ppt

PerhatianPerhatian• Ketika anda menaikkan f-number, cahaya

Page 10: Tip & Trik Motret.ppt

Tip PeralatanTip Peralatan

• Ikuti subjek melalui viewfinder ketika sedang mengambil gambar. Pastikan anda tetap menggerakan kamera ketika tombol shutter ditekan.

• Buka built-in flash anda. Periksa buku petunjuknya.

• Sama seperti pengambilan foto sebelumnya.

Watch out!Watch out!

• Don’t assume the screen on the back of your DSLR is always giving an accurate representation of your photo. Depending on the screen’s brightness settings and the surrounding light, you may find your photos look darker or lighter than they actually are. Reading the histogram can reveal if your photo is properly exposed – see forthcoming workshop – but to play safe, simply take two photos. One with exposure compensation and one without just to make sure.

Blurring water for Blurring water for a creative effecta creative effect

• Switch your camera to Shutter Priority mode by turning the mode dial to ‘S’ or on Canon models, ‘Tv’.

• Choose a slower than normal shutter speed to blur the water. 1/30 is a good starting point.

• Check your photo. If the water isn’t blurred enough, choose a slower shutter speed like 1/15 or 1/8.  Note you may need a tripod or an anti-shake system to avoid camera shake – see below.

• n shutter priority, your camera will work out the aperture setting for you. If the f-number starts flashing though, it means it can’t balance the shot. In this example, the exposure may be too long, so if your sensitivity (ISO) is already at the lowest number, you’ll have to choose a slightly quicker shutter speed until the f-number stops flashing.

• After taking your photo, remember to set the mode dial back to Auto or Program mode.

Page 25: Tip & Trik Motret.ppt

Watch out!Watch out!

• As you reduce the shutter speed, you become more susceptible to camera shake. People vary, but if you’re using a kit lens zoomed-out to wide angle without any kind of anti-shake, the slowest handheld exposure you’ll normally get away with is about 1/30. If you naturally shake, you may need at least 1/60, but if you’re very steady, then you may be ok at 1/15. If you zoom-in at all, you’ll need faster exposures to compensate for the greater magnification

Page 26: Tip & Trik Motret.ppt

Equipment tipEquipment tip

• The simplest way to avoid camera shake is to use a tripod. Manfrotto models are widely regarded as the best around and allow you to separately buy the legs and the head unit. A great starter combination are the Manfrotto 190-series legs and the 460MG head unit. If you’d prefer to travel lighter, consider a Joby Gorillapod who’s flexible legs can be wrapped around almost anything from a railing to a branch for a steady grip.

Night photographyNight photography

• Switch your camera to Manual mode by turning the mode dial to ‘M’.

• Choose the smallest f-number available and a relatively long shutter speed to record the lights. One second is a good starting point and most cameras indicate seconds using double quotes, so look for 1”.

• Keep your camera very steady. Preferably use a tripod or a Gorillapod. Use the self-timer to avoid wobbling the camera as you press the button.

• Check your photo. If the lights aren’t bright enough, try a slower shutter speed. If the lights are too bright, try a quicker shutter speed.

• After taking your photo, remember to set the mode dial back to Auto or Program mode.

Page 29: Tip & Trik Motret.ppt

Watch out!Watch out! • Always temporarily switch off any anti-shake or image

stabilisation systems when using a tripod. If the camera is perfectly steady these systems can actually introduce wobbling as they attempt to counteract something which isn’t there.

• Some cameras will also have difficulty focusing in dark conditions, so if yours is having problems, switch the lens to manual and focus on the lights. If they are distant, focus the lens to infinity.

• Another way to maximise available light is to increase your camera’s sensitivity by using a bigger ISO number. Increasing the sensitivity will however reduce your picture quality and may still not give you a quick enough exposure to handhold. So stick to using a tripod and a low ISO number for the best quality.

Using polarizing filters to cut Using polarizing filters to cut through haze and deepen blue skiesthrough haze and deepen blue skies

was taken under exactly the same lighting

conditions only moments later, but with a polarizing

filter set to deliver its maximum effect

Page 31: Tip & Trik Motret.ppt

Using polarizing filtersUsing polarizing filters

• Buy a circular polarizing filter which matches the thread on your lens; check the end of the barrel to find out the correct size. Canon’s 18-55mm and the Olympus 14-42mm kit lenses have a filter thread of 58mm. The Nikkor and Pentax 18-55mm kit lenses have a filter thread of 52mm. Sony’s 18-70mm kit lens has a 55mm thread.

• With the polarizer screwed onto the end of your lens, turn the outer section to see the polarizing effect. As you turn it, the effect will increase and decrease, then repeat. Simply stop when it looks best to you. The strength of the effect also varies depending on your angle to the Sun.

• To prevent your DSLR from counteracting the polarizing effect, set the White Balance to Daylight and consider applying negative Exposure Compensation of, say, -2/3 or -1 EV.

• After taking your photo, remember to set the White Balance back to Auto and the Exposure Compensation back to zero. Unless it’s a bright sunny day, remove the polarizer and return it to its case.

Page 32: Tip & Trik Motret.ppt

Watch out!Watch out!

• Polarizing filters reduce the amount of light entering your camera, forcing you to use longer exposures. This in turn increases the risk of camera-shake, so when using polarizing filters, always take care to keep your camera steady.

• Polarizing filters will only have the effect shown here on bright sunny days. If it’s overcast or cloudy, they’ll have little or no effect, so it’s best to remove them. Likewise indoors or at night.

• Sometimes polarizing filters can make the sky an unrealistic colour. To avoid this, adjust the outer ring for a lesser effect, and also consider taking two shots, one with the polarizer and one without in case you end up preferring the latter

Page 33: Tip & Trik Motret.ppt

Equipment tipEquipment tip

• Polarizers come in two main types: Linear and Circular. Circular polarizers, or CPLs for short, are designed to not confuse the autofocus or metering systems on modern cameras, so this is the type you’ll need to buy for your DSLR.

• Hoya is one of the most respected filter brands, and if you can afford it, go for one of its 'HMC' Multi-Coated models for better quality. See left for prices of Hoya Circular polarizers.

• Polarizing filters are quite thick and can sometimes darken the corners of ultra wide angle lenses. To avoid this, buy a thinner polarizing filter.
