“Obsession” Target Audience…

• Our target audience was teenagers, both male and female of ages between 13- 19.

• They enjoy watching TV and films, they also enjoy music, video games, and technology in general such as smart phones and computers .

• Teens tend to spend their money on cinema tickets, movie rental services such as Netflix, and video games.

• Over 80% of teens use some sort of social media. Mainly Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr and Instagram.

Page 2: Target Audience

• This target audience is a suitable one for our thriller because the actors in the film are 17, a similar age to the target audience, making them more relatable. Out film will be rated a 15 as there are some scary moments. This means most of the target audience will be able to go and watch it in a cinema. There are also some complicated and confusing plots which will only be worked out by intelligent people, so making it a 12A would be a bad idea.

• Our audience also likes watching psychological thrillers such as Inception and The Woman in Black. These films are similar to Obsession as they all include suspense and confusing plots.

• There are similarities between the opening of “Obsession” and the opening of “Inception”.

• Both have extreme close ups of the protagonist near the start to show their emotion and feelings.

• There is also a shot of a character looking out a window in both. Looking out of a window can signify many things in film. In “Inception” , it shows the character is safe inside while bad and dangerous things are going on outside.

• Similarly in “Obsession”, Croft is looking out the window with a worried expression on his face. He is safe inside his office but at the end, as soon as he leaves bad things happen to him.

Synergy and convergence can be used to help promote our film, we could cross-promote it with other products, such as music from a popular well know musician, like “The Hobbit” did with Ed Sheeran. This also promotes the artist, so it is giving back to them for helping you.

Some films such as “The Amazing Spider-Man” use video games to help sell their film. However this is more relevant to a superhero film or a kids movie, it wouldn’t be appropriate for a crime thriller as there aren’t many good quality crime thriller video games, and the one’s that are popular are huge productions that cost thousands and thousands of dollars. We wouldn’t be able to produce a game of such scale, it would most likely be a small mobile app game.

Focus Groups

We have proven our film is relevant to our chosen target audience by putting

it on YouTube. We have shown it to many of our friends aged 16/17 and

they all liked it and gave us good feedback.
