Once upon a time there were two sisters. One of them was rich but had no children, while the other was a poor widow who had five children.

One day, the poor widow no longer had enough food to satisfy herself and her children. In her need, therefore, she went to her sister and said, “My children and I are suffering the greatest hunger. You are my beloved sister and you are rich. Please give a mouthful of bread.”

The very rich sister was too stingy to give some food to her sister and said, “I myself have nothing in the house,” and she drove away her sister with harsh words.

After some time, the husband of the rich sister came home and was just going to cut himself a piece of bread. When he made the first cut into the loaf, out flowed red blood.

When the maid saw that, she was very terrified and told him what his wife had done to the poor widow. After hearing the maid’s story, the husband hurried away to help the poor widow and her children. But when he entered the widow’s room, he found her praying. She had her two youngest children in her arms and the three eldest were lying dead. He offered her food, but she refused it and answered, “We no longer have a desire for earthly food. Text for questions 30 to 33

Love is the fundamental aspect of our daily life. Our activities are colored with love and love is the blood of our relation with God’s creatures. It is not easy to define what love is all about because love concern many aspects; surely we can never describe what we exactly mean by love. In our daily lives we can divide love into several categories.

We can differentiate between the love we have for our parents, our brothers and sisters, our best friends, our lover and – of course – our love to the Creator. When a man and a woman make up their minds to go through this life together, we know that they are in love. When a brother brings home a sweet doll for his younger sister, we call that love. Even, when a mother is getting angry at her child, she does it because she loves him. Love is one of the mysteries in our lives. In Love, we not only find passion, truth and belief, but also hate and hurt as well.

Although love is indescribable, it is something that we can touch with our feeling and hearts. Sometimes we say that we love someone but actually what we feel is only admiration. It is said that when we want to get close to someone all the time and we are willing to do everything for that person without anything in return, we love that person.

However, I personally believe that love is more than that. Even if the above definition is close enough to the love we have for our lover, it is greater than any definition in this world.

30. What is the thesis statement of the text?a. Love is fundamental aspect of life that can divide into several categoriesb. In Love, we not only find passion but also hate and hurt as wellc. Love is describable that can touch with our feeling and heartd. Love is just the blood of our relation with God’s creaturese. Love is needed by man and woman who want to go through life together

31. Love is one of mysteries in our live because ….a. it has a greater meaning than any definition in this worldb. Love can make us want to get close to someone and do everythingc. It makes a brother brings home sweet dolls for his sisterd. in love we not only find truth and belief but also hate and hurt as well.e. It makes us giving an admiration to someone we love

32. “Sometimes we say that we love someone but actually what we feel is only admiration” (line 14-15, paragraph-3)The word ‘admiration’ means ….a. delightedb. happyc. believed. excitemente. esteem

33. The writer suggests that we should …a. believe that love is more greater than any definition in this world

7

Page 8: Soal-UCOBIng-2-Paket-B

b. believe that love is only of those definitionsc. not think that love is more than those definitions d. consider that love is the blood of our relation to God’s creaturese. not consider that love is only can touch with feeling and heart

People who have a pro argument claim that video games give a lot of benefits. Playing video games is a good way to kill children’s boredom. It can refresh the children’s mind after a tiring school day. Moreover, they also argue that video games can trigger children to be more creative because the games provide challenging ways to win. Television has certainly changed our lives. Today, most people prefer watching TV to going to the cinema. Without it, nobody would have paid much attention to national or international – historical, political, sport, etc – events. Even, television proved that pictures of suffering can move a nation to pity. Besides, many things can be learnt from TV

Are there any advantages of TV? Many parents admitted that they found difficulties to stop their children’s bad habit, for example, they spend their leisure time for watching TV more than reading. Children become very lazy and irresponsible for their tasks. This is of course denied by TV producers or people whose works is related to TV.

They are very sure that there are a lot of benefits of TV for viewers, especially children or students. On the other hand, they honestly admit that TV programs can endanger children’s mental. They regret because parents sometimes don’t have much time to watch TV together with their children. They suggest parents to have more discussion with their children on any programs they have seen.

49. What does paragraph 2 tell us about TV?a. The benefit of TV for viewers, especially for parentsb. The disadvantage of TV programs to children and studentsc. The difficulties of students in stopping their bad habitd. The contrary of producer to people who work for TV e. The different point of views between many parents and children

50. “On the other hand, they honestly admit that TV programs…” (Paragrap-3) The word “they” refers to ….

a. TV programs. b. Benefits of TV c. TV producersd. Many parents e. Children
