Nelson Mandela
Nelson Mandela was declared South Africa's first black president in 1994 after having spent 27 years in prison for fighting colonial rule. Mandela spent 18 of his 27 years in a cell on Robben Island, off Cape Town's coast. The South African icon broke rocks into gravel during the day and slept on a straw mat, a 7-by-7-foot space at night.
Strong
Aung San Suu Kyi
On November 14, 2010, Myanmar's democracy icon and Nobel Peace Prize winner Aung San Suu Kyi was released after spending more than 15 years under house arrest for leading mass protests against Myanmar's military junta. Suu Kyi's husband Michael Aris died of cancer during her imprisonment, and she did not meet her grandchildren until granted freedom in 2010. Since her release, the 67-year-old has led the National League for Democracy party, winning a seat in parliament during 2012's election.
QUICK TO RECOVER
Martin Luther King Jr.
Martin Luther King Jr had real threats and struggled through racism but he recoiled. He went on the stage and changed the world by ending cruel racism.
BRAVE
Thomas Edison
Thomas Edison is a good example of resilience. He had failed inventing the light bulb numerous of times but he bounced back and continued in the result of succeeding.
FEISTY
Vincent Van Gogh Sold only one
painting in his life-time, despite that he kept 800 paintings. We can see that even after his death, he proved to rebound despite his failures, because everyone wants his paintings in todays market.
IRRIPRESSIBLE
Walt Disney Walt Disney’s first
animated went bankrupt. He was also fired by a news editor for ‘lacking imagination’. He showed pliancy by not giving up and being the one who gives us Disney and Mickey Mouse, becoming a success.SPIRITED
Robert Mugabe
Zimbabwe's president has been at the country's helm since 1980, its only leader since gaining independence from the British. Despite a ten-year incarceration, a volatile independence movement, and rampant accusations of abuse and corruption, the 89-year-old survives.
