Design Philosophy

My goals in designing are to allow people to forge connections with nature and creating a commons, inclusive open spaces that anchor the surrounding while promoting ecological, experiential, and social diversity.

I like creating a space using passive design strategies whereby people can get together to interact and also to seek comforts in the envi-ronment where I’ve created.

I also enjoy the process of brainstorming dif-ferent planting plans/layouts as different de-signs give off different vibes and I will try to come out with as many designs as possible.

Experience

Chairperson & Event Photographer for Pho-tography Club in Fuhua Secondary School.

Barista at Starbucks Coffee Singapore.

I twisted and rotated some parts of my model to create the mysterious vibe and as well as to make my model more stable. Fur-thermore, it also helps to enhance the ex-perience of anyone walking inside as they can’t see what lies in front of them.

I want the users to experience dif-ferent types of mysteries. When I was making this model, I could imagine myself exploring inside this structure. the views from in-side is different from outside.

The idea of doing this model is to cre-ate an unique yet intesresting space.

I cut and trimmed some parts to create shadows when there is light shone on them. These shadows will be in different patterns, hence creating more experiential space.

Site

Pulau Ubin is a granite island of 1023.9 ha. The island measures approximately 8 km and 1.7 km at its greatest length and width, respectively.

Butterfly Hill is located South-East of Pulau Ubin.

The topography of Butterfly Hill pro-vides good view point towards Pekan Quarry.

It is also a haven for wild-life.there are: 70 vascular plant species 27 mammal species205 bird species39 reptile species7 amphibian species53 dragonfly species over 150 butterfly species.

Prior to 1819: primary rain forest oc-cupied 67% of total land area and man-groves, 33%. However, due primarily to human disturbance that correlat-ed with economic priorities at various times, it resulted in total loss of prima-ry forest with secondary forest.

Present: due mainly conversion into aquaculture farms(7.8%), mangrove forest occupied 18.9% of total land area. Due to new construction proj-ects(built-up area) like the OBS camp II and the NPCC campsite(5.5%), present dry land secondary forest occupied 45.4%.

Vision:“I aim to use interactive café about butterflies as a catalyst to ad-dress the issue of having no specific activities around the site. With this, I aim to improve the sustainability in environment and biodiver-sity and therefore making Pulau Ubin a more sustainable place which, in the same time, preserving the biodiversities too.”

I aim to use bicycle learning-and-obsta-cles hub as a catalyst to attract families with kids, teenagers, cycling enthusiasts and tourists. Therefore making Kallang a more interesting place for everyone and not only sportsmen/athletes.

In terms of macro scale, I’ll be implementing the bi-cycle-sharing systems along Singapore’s Park Con-nectors(PCNs).

Site is located next to Singapore National Stadium @ Kallang, which has many sports facilities avail-able. However, there isn’t cycling activity hap-pening around the site. Hence, proposing a cycling activity that will enhance Singaporean’s participa-tion in sports, regardless of age or ability.

Forging connections

through cycling

PCNs are inter-connected, I hope it’ll at-tract people to cycle as they can rent & return bike at any station.

Site is Youth Park, located next to National Youth Council and opposite *Scape.

Youth Park were officially opened by then Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong in 1996. The centre was to serve as a one-stop centre for youth and youth matters. It housed a multipurpose hall for meetings and activities as well as a resource centre with reference and take-home materials on youths and youth organisations.

I hope to implement an activity that will at-tract Youths. This activity will be sport-related and fun. So, I’ve decided to implement High Rope Element Courses for the site. It’s a great activ-ity for Young people who are passionate about extreme sports.

National Youth Council was established to In 1988, to learn about the interests, needs and aspirations of youths as well as to review and recommend policies and programmes to maximise their potential and contribution to the nation. The council comprised youth leaders, young pro-fessionals and people who worked with youths.

Relax&

Bond

As per Mr. Gerrard Lim’s request, I de-signed a garden where one can find in-ner-peace within themselve after a hectic day at work and also, be able to have a place for some family bonding time.

Mr. Gerrard Lim is working as secret agent. He has a lot of secret missions & the workload is heavy. He just bought a new house with a 8m x 8m backyard. he wanted to change the backyard into a garden.
