  • OBJECTIVESTo enable pupils to:Master the Scientific Skills which includes;- Science Process Skills (SPS)- Science Manipulative Skills (SMS)Strengthen the knowledge and understanding on the theories and concepts in science.Inculcate the Scientific Attitudes and Noble Values

  • INSTRUMENTSPractical work and reportField tripClass-room activities(eg. simulation, role play)FolioProjectScrap bookCheck-listModels

  • Assessment should be formative and continuous.Pupils are encouraged to acquire knowledge and experience all the timePupils are given opportunity to improve their work and the score that they obtainedEvidence produced by the pupils should be kept for the purpose of coordination.

  • SCOREThe maximum total score = 50 i.e 30 marks for SPS20 marks for SMS

Scores are awarded according to the Scoring scheme.

  • METHOD FOR ASSESSMENTCarried out as part of Teaching and Learning process.Teachers can assess either one construct/skill or several constructs/skills at one time.Pupils can be assessed either individually, a small group, or the whole class.Scientific Attitudes and Novel Values should be assessed simultaneously with other skills.

  • METHOD FOR ASSESSMENTTeachers assess, award and record the score based on the evidence presented by the pupils.Pupils must summit or show a complete evidence.Pupils who have not mastered any assessed construct, are able to repeat it in another assignment.Teachers must plan enough assignments to ensure that all the constructs have been assessed.

  • METHOD FOR ASSESSMENTPupils should be given adequate chances to master the required skills before the assessment is made. The skills that have been mastered by the pupils in the earlier Year, need not necessarily be assessed again in the later Year, unless it involved a higher level. The assessment should be carried out at least two times in each year.

  • ACTIVITY CODEBased on the Science Curriculum Specification (KBSR), the activity code refers to:

    Year/Theme/Learning Objective/Learning Outcomes

    eg. 3/1/1.2/1

  • SPS 1 : OBSERVING: Observing involves the sense of sight, hearing, smell, touch and taste to collect information of an object and phenomenon. Sometimes, observing also involves quantitative measurement. Observing is part of an investigation process which has specific aim.SCORECRITERIA REMARK

C1- State the properties of objects and situations Suggestedcorrectly using any of the five senses. Activity:

C2- State the properties of objects and situations Field tripcorrectly using appropriate tools to assist the Experimentsenses. • SPS 2 : CLASSIFYING: Observing and identifying the similarities and differencesbetween objects or phenomena and group them according to commoncharacteristics.

  • SPS 3 : MEASURING AND USING NUMBERS : Make quantitative observation usingtools with standard unit. Measurement will make a certain observation more precise.

  • SPS 4 : COMMUNICATING: To present ideas in various forms such as orally, written, graph, diagram, model or table. It also involves the skill to listen to otherpersons idea and to response to it.

  • SPS 5 : USING SPACE - TIME RELATIONSHIP : A process to explain or to showthe changes in location, direction, shape and size of an object with time.

  • SPS 6 : DEFINING OPERATIONALLY :

  • SPS 7 : DESIGNING A FAIR TEST/EXPERIMENTING
