Applicants, who fulfill the minimum entry requirements in a programme of their choice, offered at the Institut Teknologi Brunei at Undergraduate Degree, Foundation Degree or BDTVEC Higher National Diploma level, are now eligible to apply to the Institute under the Government Scholarship Scheme for the academic year 2014/2015. 1 MINIMUM ENTRY REQUIREMENTS 1.1 Undergraduate Degree

iii. At least a Credit Six in English Language at GCE Ordinary Level or an IELTS score of 6.0 or TOEFL minimum overall score 550 or its equivalent.

A1 - BACHELOR OF ENGINEERING (HONS) IN CIVIL ENGINEERING A2 - BACHELOR OF ENGINEERING (HONS) IN CIVIL & GEOTECHNICAL ENGINEERING A3 - BACHELOR OF ENGINEERING (HONS) IN CIVIL & STRUCTURAL ENGINEERING a. A minimum of 220 tariff points for 3 A-level passes in subjects including Mathematics (Grade C

or higher) and Physics (Grade C or higher) and one relevant science subject (normally include Chemistry, Biology, Design and Technology, Geography and Computing).  

OR  b. A minimum of 220 tariff points for 2 A-level passes in Mathematics and Physics.

A4 - BACHELOR OF ENGINEERING (HONS) IN PETROLEUM ENGINEERING (ARTICULATION PROGRAMME (2+2) WITH THE UNIVERSITY OF NEW SOUTH WALES, AUSTRALIA) A5 - BACHELOR OF ENGINEERING (HONS) IN CHEMICAL ENGINEERING (ARTICULATION PROGRAMME (2+2) WITH THE UNIVERSITY OF NEW SOUTH WALES, AUSTRALIA) OR [LOCAL DEGREE PROGRAMME (4 YEARS)] a. A minimum of 240 ‘A’ Level points for 3 ‘A’ level passes, ideally in Physics, Chemistry and

Mathematics (excluding Further Mathematics) and preferably at grade ‘C’ or higher. OR

b. An International Baccalaureate score of 28 points preferably with minimum of 5 points in Physics, Mathematics and/or Chemistry at standard level or 4 points at higher level.

OR c. An International Baccalaureate Diploma score of 28 points

OR d. A BTEC/BDTVEC Higher National Diploma in Business fields with acceptable grades as

relevant English medium subjects (normally include Further Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Computing and Design & Technology).

OR b. A minimum of 180 ‘A’ Level points for 2 ‘A’ level passes including Mathematics and one other

relevant English medium subject. OR

c. An International Baccalaureate Diploma score of 28 points with minimum of 5 points in Mathematics at standard level and preferably, with two sciences subjects.

OR d. A relevant BTEC/BDTVEC Higher National Diploma in Information Technology related fields

with acceptable grades as specified by the faculty. OR

e. Relevant work experience and/or qualifications deemed to be equivalent to one of the above to be decided on a case by case basis by the faculty.

1.2 ITB Foundation Degree

FD1 – FOUNDATION DEGREE IN PROCESS ENGINEERING

a. A minimum of 120 ‘A’ level points which should include at least two D’s. One of the D’s must be in Mathematics. The other subject/s should preferably be from relevant science subjects, for example Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Computing.

OR b. A relevant BTEC/BDTVEC National Diploma with acceptable grades.

OR c. Relevant work experience and/or qualifications deemed to be equivalent to one of the above

to be decided on a case by case basis by the faculty FD2 – FOUNDATION DEGREE IN MECHANICAL ENGINEERING

a. A minimum of 120 ‘A’ Level points for 2 ‘A’ level passes including Mathematics (Grade D or higher) and a relevant Science subject. (Relevant science subjects include Physics, Design and Technology, Chemistry, and Computing)

OR b. A minimum of 100 points for 1 ‘A’ level passes in Mathematics or Physics.

OR c. A relevant BTEC/BDTVEC National Diploma or its equivalent with acceptable grades as

specified by the faculty OR

d. Relevant work experience and/or qualifications deemed to be equivalent to one of the above to be decided on a case by case basis by the faculty

1.3 BDTVEC Higher National Diploma (HND)

Applicants for admission to HND programmes must satisfy the following minimum entry requirements:-

i. Minimum of a pass in a relevant English medium subject at GCE

Advanced Level, with three credits in relevant English medium subjects (these normally include Mathematics) and a credit in the Malay language* at GCE Ordinary Level.

OR ii. A relevant BTEC/BDTVEC National Diploma with acceptable grades and

a credit in Malay language* at PMB Level. OR

iii. An acceptable qualification and/or relevant experience deemed to be equivalent to one of the above.

AND iv. Applicants must either achieve at least a Credit Six in Mathematics at

GCE Ordinary Level OR pass in Numeracy Test set by the University. AND

v. Applicants must either achieve at least a Credit Six in English Language at GCE Ordinary Level or an IELTS score of 6.0 OR pass in Literacy Test set by the University.

AND vi. A Pass in an interview.

*Note: Malay language – applicable only for Bruneians applying for a Government Scholarship

D1 – HIGHER NATIONAL DIPLOMA IN CIVIL ENGINEERING a) Relevant A-Level subjects include Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.

b) Relevant O-Level subjects include Mathematics, Additional Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Engineering

Science, Combined Science, Computer, Geography, Technical Drawing and English. D2 – HIGHER NATIONAL DIPLOMA IN CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT AND QUANTITY SURVEYING a) Relevant A-Level subjects include Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Geography,

Accounting, Business Studies, Economics and Biology.

b) Relevant O-Level subjects include Mathematics, Additional Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Engineering Science, Combined Science, Technical Drawing, English, Principle of Accounts, Agriculture, Geography, Computer Studies, Commercial Studies and Economics.

2 ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Applicants must also satisfy the following additional requirements:-

2.1 Units taken at BTEC/BDTVEC National Diploma must be relevant and related to the programme applied for. Priority will be given to those applicants who had achieved good grades in the relevant units and fulfill the requirements set by the University.

2.2 Willing to accept the offer set by the University. No further change in the

programme choices will be entertained. 2.3 Clear from any security issues and is medically fit. 3 APPLICANTS WHO WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED

Applicants in the following categories will automatically not be considered:

3.1 Not fulfilling minimum and additional entry requirements as mentioned in paragraph 1 and 2.

3.2 Previously rejected an offer from the Ministry of Education for any programmes

at Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD), Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA), Politeknik Brunei or Institut Teknologi Brunei (ITB).

3.3 Previously received scholarship from either the Government or Brunei Shell

Petroleum Sendirian Berhad and has not been awarded any additional qualification after the scholarship had been terminated.

3.4 Late applications received after the closing date or any incomplete application or

application with non-certified certificates and documents attached or any application containing untrue or misleading information.

4 IN-SERVICE APPLICANTS 4.1 All applicants who are currently employed by the Government either in a

permanent, temporary, month to month or open vote position will only be considered if their application forms are submitted through their Head of Departments. (Reference: PMO’s circular ref: 2/1991 and 27/1988 issued on 3 January 1991 and 6 September 1988).

4.2 Employees and trainees of Brunei Shell Petroleum Sendirian Berhad will only be considered if their application forms are submitted through the Head of Departments.

5 APPLICATION FORM 5.1 All applications (EXCEPT in-service applicants) must be made ONLINE by

visiting the HECAS portal at www.hecas.edu.bn. The website will be available starting XX February 2014 (To be confirmed).

5.2 Following the online application, all applicants are required to submit a print out

of their application form together with 2 copies of identity card, certified true copies of academic certificates and relevant documents to the Institut Teknologi Brunei.

5.3 In-service and applicants who are employed are required to follow the following

procedure:

5.3.1 Each applicant is to complete ONE application form only. A photocopy of the application form is to be submitted to Institut Teknologi Brunei before the deadline.

5.3.2 Application forms are available at:-

application forms are also to be submitted through their Employer or Head of Department, together with a “Confidential Report” as well as a complete and updated copy of “Service Record”.

5.3.5 All copies of certificates and documents attached to application forms are

to be certified by Head of Department/Employer.

5.3.6 The complete set of application forms together with all copies of certificates and related documents attached, is to be submitted directly to Institut Teknologi Brunei not later than the XX February 2014 (To be confirmed).

6.2 For applications to the BDTVEC Higher National Diploma programmes, only applicants who have fulfilled the main requirements will be called for the entrance test(s), if necessary, and an interview.

6.3 The Malay language qualification at London General Certificate of Education level is

no longer certified equivalent to Malay Language Brunei GCE Ordinary Level. 6.4 Programmes offered are listed in the accompanying information (Please refer to
