Ma lähtun oma loomingus enda keha piiridest. Sellest, kui suur ma olen, kuhu ulatun ning mida mäletan. Aeganõudev, sageli kordustel põhinev, vahest ehk isegi nüri töö on tuumaks mu teoste valmimisel. Need leiavad vahel vormi kummaliste tarbeesemete kujul, kuid sageli mu teosed jäävadki üsna kehatuks ning neid jääb vaid märkima füüsilisest tegevusest tekkinud jälg.

My practice is based on time-honoured and repetitive, even blunt work. My pieces often find a form of an odd everyday object or remain visible as only mark left behind of an activity. In my works I am measuring the limits of my physical body as well as my span of memory.

Haokorjamine on mulle kontimööda. Mõõdukas kehaline rakendatus, tulemuse ilmselgus ning metsas ringi kõndimine muutsid selle seitsme kuu pikkuse töö justkui jõuduandvaks. Sageli leian ma maastikul liikudes ja ilma käes olles asju ja olukordi, millest saan elamusi, millesarnaseid tahaksin ma kunstiteostest saada. Neid on võimatu aga liigutada ja taasluua nõnda, et mõju säiliks. Minu teos sünnib võsavahel, seal veedetud aega, füüsilist panust ning kogetut talletav hagu jääb sillaks teose tuuma ja vaataja vahel.

Collecting sticks and twigs in the forest is an activity I find invigorating. Perhaps it is due to the moderate physical exertion, clear result of the activity or the natural scenery. I often experience natural environment as an artwork – I find fascinating objects and inspiring installations there with my urban eyes. But it is impossible to recreate those phenomenons in exhibition space without losing their impact. My collection of bundles will work only as a reference to the time and effort spent in woods.

Hööveldasin ja lihvisin talvejagu küttepuid siledaks. Hoolega.

I polished a pile of firewood with care till all the logs were nice and smooth.

MINU ÕNN / MY LUCK2014

Valasin oma keharaskuse jagu sulatina otse näituseruumi. Põrandale jäi särav jälg tegevusest, mille abil peletasin ebaõnne ning teadmatust tuleviku suhtes.

I casted my own bodyweight of lead on the floor of a gallery. It is an Estonian tradition to pour small amount of lead into water in New Years Eve in order to conjure luck and predict future by translating the form of casted lead into upcoming events.

Mul on kehv tasakaal, seega võtsin nõuks treenida tasakaalu. Mõtlesin välja sellise harjutuse, kus seisan ruumi paigutatud kiviplokkide peal kikivarvul nii, et napilt ulatun grafiit sõrmede vahel, lage puudutama. Mu toetuspunktist joonistus lakke joonepusa, kuni mu tegevuse katkestas telefonikõne emalt. Ta helistab mulle iga päev, vahel lõuna ajal, vahelhiljem. Vahel tulevad ka päeva-paarised pausidette.Minu tegevusest jäi galeriisse üksteise otsalaotud kiviplokid, mille kohal on laes minu kõikumisest tekkinud jälg. Nende vahemaa on täpselt minu väljasirutatud keha pikkune. Esmakordselt tegin selle töö Raja galeriis. Kordasin seda tööd Tartu Kunstimaja trepimademel, kus kiviplokkide asemel kasutasinkohapealset päritolu postamente, midaüksteise otsa ladudes kombineerisin ronitavainstallatsiooni, et ulatuda ligi kuue meetrikõrguse lae alla.

I don´t have good balance, so I decided totrain myself in order to feel more stable in myeveryday life. I stood on a block of stones so thatI can hardly reach to the ceiling with graphitebetween my fingers. I drew lines in order to keepmyself up. There was a round mark left behind ofmy action. I was there trying to balance myselfuntil my mothers call interrupted my activity.She calls me every day. Sometimes on the noon,sometimes later and sometimes not at all.Second time I exhibited this work, I used plywoodpostaments to climb up to the six meter highceiling.

Teisendasin 111 km pikkuse teekonna Tallinnastmu suvekodusse jooneks kuue meetri laiuseseina peal. Stressirohkel ajal painab mind suurigatsus maalemineku järele. Samas pole seeigatsus märtsikuise maamaja järele, vaid teguon lihtsalt sooviga põgeneda pingevabasse jaarmsasse keskkonda. Läbisin selle teekonna nagunurkaaetud loom soojas ja valges galeriis möödaseina äärt kõndides. Selle asemel, et põgenedamaale, põgenesin töösse.

I converted the distance between Tallinn and mysummerhouse into a 111 km long line. I drew theline with a graphite stick on a six meter long wallwalking back and forth. Always on a stressful timeI get the longing for my summerhouse. I start tomiss the peaceful and balanced state of mind Ienter while being there. I do not have enoughtime to be there as much as I would like to, I haveto stay in Tallinn and make art. But making thispiece, I did not have to run away to countryside, Iescaped into work.

See töö sündis olukorrast, kus ma olin 2012. aasta kevadel. Mul oli plaan minna poole aasta pärast sügisel Austria kunstniku Georg Ritteri juurde assistendiks. Ta oli mulle sel hetkel täiesti võõras. Ma teadsin temast seda, et ta peaasjalikult teeb hiiglasuuri efektseid joonistusi. Ma ei mõistnud, mis on tema kujutatavate motiivide taust - need tundusid üsna juhuslikud. Samas, tööd on väga ägedad. Mina naudin joonistamist. Ma tahaks isegi selliseid töid teha, kuid ma ei ole suutnud end kunagi veenda, miks ma peaks midagi ujutama. Veidi kadedast meelest ning soovist kuidagi suhestuda oma tulevase mentoriga, otsisin välja kõik oma harilikud pliiatsid, teritasin need ja joonistasin nad joonistusvihikusse lõpuni ära.

This work was born from the situation I was in spring 2012. I had a plan to work as an assistant for Austrian artist Georg Ritter. He and his work work was completely unknown for me. All that I knew about him was that he is doing gigantic realistic drawings. What is the background of these images and what motivates him to work is mystery for me. I also enjoy drawing, but I have had hard time to convince myself to depict anything and I have not found a way to use drawing in my artwork. To find a common ground with my future mentor I did this work. I searched out all the pencils I had, sharpened them and drew them all til the end into a notebook.

Ma tegin oma lähedastele nende tähtsatest,kuid aja jooksul tahaplaanile jäänud majadestmedalid. Mõnikord leiame elus pidepunktimajadest, mis ei ole meile igapäevaselt tähtsadnagu kodu, kool ja töökoht, vaid hoopisjuhuslikemast – lillepoest, kust sai kooliajal kõiklilled õpetajatele ostetud, ilusast naabermajastvõi esimesest hambarstikliinikust. Medalinataskus, sahtlinurgas või riiuliserval olles, püsivadneed majad neist hoolivatele inimestele lähedal.

These are series of medals I made for my friendsand family about important houses in their lives.Medal art has some qualities that I value in artin general. By fitting in palm, medals can reachvery close to a person. Also, medals are usuallyaddressed to someone, they have clear audience.In this work, medals keep memory of a housethat has been important in some point in theirlife, but has moved on the background. Leadgives a small item suprisingly heavy weight.
