Titran biasanya merupakan larutan standar elektrolit kuat, seperti NaOH dan
HCl.
2. Titrasi Oksidasi-Reduksi
Reaksi-reaksi kimia yang manyangkut okisdasi-reduksi secara luas digunakan
dalam analisa titrimetri. Misalnya, besi, dalam keadaan oksidasi +2 dapat
dititrasi dengan suatu larutan standar serium ( I V ) sulfat. Pengoksidasi lain
yang secara luas digunakan sebagai suatu titran adalah kalium permanganat,
KMn04. R dalam reaksi dengan besi ( I I ) dalam larutan asam basa adalah :
5Fe ^ + Mn04-+ 8H^ • 5Fe3++ Mn ^ + 4H2O
3. Titrasi Pengendapan
Pengendapan kation perak dengan anion halogen merupakan proses titrimetri
yang digunakan secara luas. Reaksinya adalah :

4. Pembentukan Kompleks
Reaksi yang menhasilkan suatu kompleks stabil adalah antara ion-ion perak
dan sianida:
Ag^ + 2CN • Ag(CN)2-
Reaksi ini merupakan dasar dari yang disebut cara liebig untuk menentukan
sianida. Pereaksi organic tertentu seperti asam etilen diamin tetra asetat
(EDTA), membentuk kompleks stabil dengan sejumlah ion metal dan
digunakan secara luas untuk penentuan logam-logam.
2.8.2 Titrasi Iodometri
Titrasi iodometri adalah salah satu jenis titrasi redoks yang melibatkan
iodium. Titrasi iodometri termasuk jenis titrasi tidak langsung yang dapat
digunakan untuk menetapkan senyawa-senyawa yang mempunyai potensial
oksidasi yang lebih besar daripada sistem iodium atau senyawa-senyawa yang
bersifat oksidator seperti CUSO4.5H2O (http://id.wikipedia.org/wiki/Titrasi).
Bebeda dengan titrasi iodometri yang mereaksikan sampel dengan iodium,
maka pada proses iodometri ini, sampel yang bersifat oksidator direduksi dengan
KI beriebih dan akan menghasilkan I2 yang selanjutnya ditirasi dengan larutan
baku natrium tiosulfat (Na2S203). Banyaknya volume Na2S203 yang digunakan
sebagai titran setara dengan banyaknya sampel.
