METABOLISME BIOMOLEKUL
MISRAN LAWANI
METABOLISME
Bahasa Yunani : metaballein = mengubah sebagai
gabungan seluruh reaksi kimia yang terjadi di dalam sel
mahluk hidup
Terdiri dari reaksi katabolisme dan anabolisme
Katabolisme (Greek, cata = ‘bawah’), berkaitan
dengan reaksi degradasi
Anabolisme ( Greek, ana = ‘atas’), berhubungan
dengan reaksi sintesis

METABOLISME
METABOLISME
Metabolisme di dalam sel : merupakan tahap
metabolisme tingkat molekul, termasuk proses-proses
koenzim, hormone, nukleotida, pigmen, antibiotika,
alkaloid, dll)
Semua proses metabolime (primer maupun sekunder)
seluruhnya dapat berlangsung karena ada katalis
enzim.
CARBOHYDRATE METABOLISM
Cells mainly in the form of glucose utilize carbohydrate.
The three principal monosaccharides resulting from thedigestive processes are glucose, fructose and galactose.
Both fructose and galactose are readily converted toglucose by the liver
Pentose sugars such as xylose, arabinose and ribose may bepresent in the diet
Since glucose is the compound formed from starch andglycogen, the carbohydrate metabolism commences withthis monosaccharide.
Carbohydrate Metabolism
The major metabolic processes in carbohydrates are :
Glycolysis: splits glucose to pyruvate, which can be converted tolactate under anaerobic condition.
Gluconeogenesis: converts pyruvate to glucose.
Glycogenesis: synthesis of glycogen, carbohydrate fuel storageform
Glycogenolysis: breakdown of glycogen.
Pentose Phosphate Pathway (PPP): produces NADPH for cellbiosynthesis
Kreb's TCA cycle or Citric Acid Cycle: converts Acetyl CoA toC02 and energy
Carbohydrate Metabolism
Glycolysis is going to be our first pathway, and it is
arguably the most important and universal of the
metabolic pathways.
C6H12O6 + 2ADP + 2NAD+ + 2Pi 2C3H4O3 + 2ATP + 2NADH + 2H

menyembunyikan kompleksitas jalur glikolisis yang melibatkan
Sembilan (9) senyawa intermediet dan sepuluh (10) enzim.

Lipid Metabolism
Pathways of the Fat System :
Lipolysis: hydrolysis of triacylglycerol to glycerol and free fatty
acids
β-Oxidation: mitochondrial oxidation of fatty acids -----> Energy!
Ketogenesis: synthesis of ketone bodies.
Lipogenesis: fatty acid synthesis.
Esterification: attachment of fatty acids to glycerol to form
triglycerides.
Cholesterolgenesis: synthesis of cholesterol.
Steroidogenesis: synthesis of steroid hormones from cholesterol.
Lipid Metabolism
Amino Acid and Protein Metabolism
Protein metabolism is a key physiological
process in all forms of life. Proteins are
converted to amino acids and then
catabolised.
Both exopeptidases and endopeptidases
are required for complete conversion of
protein to amino acids.
