RINGKASAN
energi spesifik pengolahan biodiesel.

SUMMARY
So far, biodiesel is produced using of transesterification catalyst processes to increase
the rate of reaction. The downside of using an alkaline catalyst (transesterification) is the
formation of soap (saponification) which can inhibit the process of separation (purification) of
methyl ester (biodiesel) with glycerol so we need to do esterification process to convert /
reduce the levels of free fatty acids (FFA) and then do the process of transesterification with
alkaline catalysts to convert it into methyl esters (biodiesel). That is why biodiesel production
using the catalyst requires a relatively long time in process.
Related to these weaknesses, has developed methods of making biodiesel without any
catalyst, which uses supercritical methanol method and ultrasonic waves. Supercritical
methanol method is a biodiesel production method to produce high quality biodiesel at high
temperature and high pressure (supercritical). Supercritical methanol method has several
advantages, that is not influenced by the material conditions for the free fatty acid (FFA)
contained in the material due to the supercritical methanol method, the FFA will be esterified
into high methyl ester, shorter process time, not influenced by the presence of water , and no
soap is formed, thereby reducing wastewater treatment costs.
The application of ultrasonic waves will increase the rate of chemical reactions and
reduce specific energy biodiesel processing. The success of this research will reduce the time
transesterification process and allows for the manufacture of biodiesel plants are smaller than
the conventional process. Establishment of factories with continuous system also allows that
a greater production capacity with operating costs less expensive biodiesel processing.
