Karunalaya is a Home for the dying, destitute, poor and abandoned of the city of Belgaum and its surrounding areas.

It is run and managed by members of the LEOMEL Society for care of the dying and destitute who provide selfless service to the residents of the Home.

• It was founded by Mrs. Anita Rodricks, a widow and retired teacher of St. Paul's High School, Belgaum, Karnataka, India.

• By establishing this Home, Mrs. Anita Rodricks and the society members hope to reach out in love and service to the poorest of the poor to care, support and assist the dying, destitute and abandoned who have no one to look after them.

Services Provided at Karunalaya

• Clean adequate dormitory-style accommodation for all residents

• Fresh healthy vegetarian food served daily

• Special non-vegetarian food served on Sundays and feast days

• Medicines administered daily to residents for their needs and illnesses

• Regular medical dressing of wounds is done daily by the staff

• In case of any kind of serious illness the residents are shifted to local area Hospitals

• Trainee doctors and interns from local medical colleges visit Karunalaya regularly

• Psychiatric care voluntarily offered by Dr. Belinda Viegas-Mueller from Goa

• If needed, residents are taken to Dr.Sakhadev, a society member

• An Annual Diabetes Camp is conducted by Dr. Neeta Deshpande of Belgaum
