REQUISITES OF ENGINEERS IN THE NEXT MILLENNIUM

Engineering technology is the profession in which knowledge of mathematics and

natural sciences gained by higher education, experience, and practice is devoted

primarily to the implementation (kb) and extension(kb) of existing technology for

    the benefit(kb) of humanity(kb).

    Engineering(kb) technology(kb) education(kb) focuses(kkt) primarily on(ks) the

    applied aspects(kb) of(preposition) science(kb) and engineering(kb) aimed(kb) at

    preparing(kk) graduates(kb) for(k.samb) practice (kb) in (k.dep) that(k.samb)

    portion(kb) of(k.depan) the technological spectrum(kb) closest(ket) to product(kb)

    improvement(kb), manufacturing(k.ker), construction(kb), and engineering(kb)

operational(k.sifat) functions. Thus(kk) engineering technology is the

    application(kb) of engineering principles(k.sif) and(ksam) modern(ks) technology to

    help(kb) solve(kkt) or prevent(kkt) technical(ks) problems(kb).

    The 21st century(kb) will(ks) be a period(kb) of knowledge(kb) based(kb)

business(kb). Engineering is a discipline(ks) based on knowledge of not only(kk)

    the latest state-of-the-art technologies, but(k.sam) concurrently, onkdep) a solid(ks)foundation(kb) of classical(ks) theories(kb). As engineering graduates(kb), you will

undoubtedly be well(ks)-versed(ks) with(kd) both(ks) the classical theories and

    state-of-the-art technologies. However(k.sam), in order(kb) to face(kb) the

challenges(kb) of the coming millennium(kb), this(ks) is not enough(ks). In order to

be competitive(KS) on an individual, organizational(ks) and international(ks)

    level(kb), engineers need(kb) to be value-adders. Efforts(kb) must(ks) be

made(kker) not only to improve(ks) ourselves as engineers, but(k>sam) also(kk) to

increase the accomplishments(kb) of engineers as a whole, in adapting technology

to local conditions as well as competing internationally(kket).

    Engineering is the driver(kb) of development(kb). Engineers play(kk) a vital(ks)

role in our effort to achieve(kket) the type(kb) of industrialization in(kd) line(kb)with(kd) Vision(kb) 2020. Engineers, by virtue(kb) of the scheme of things, are

leaders of engineering teams. However(k samp), engineers also(kk) have not

    only(kk) the potential(kb), but(ksam) the opportunity(kb) to be leaders(kB) of(kd)

industries. We have to work(kK) with our fellow(kb) men and women, to guide(kb),

motivate(kkt), and if (k>sam)necessary, educate(kkt) them. Being graduates, we

have the responsibility(ks) to provide(kkt) training(kk) to our fellow men and

women. Therefore(kk), in order to be successful(kk), an engineer must(ks) also(kk)

    develop(kkt) and master(kb) interpersonal(ks) skills(kb), the ability(kb) to project

ideas across, and a feel for socio-economic realities.

Engineers need to equip(kkt) themselves with integrity, creativity and innovative

thinking, in order to carry(kkt) out their roles more effectively. Prepare(kk) to be

more enthusiastic, assertive and pro-active. Live(ks) by a "We can, We will, We

    must" attitude.
